Mobilizing Republicans for Victory
If the events of today, April 29, don't mobilize Republicans, we might as well as give the keys to the Republican party to the Democrats and get ready to become "subjects" for the rest of our lives.
James Carville has a new book entitled "40 More Years"; the premise is, Republicans have been so stupid that the Democrats are going to be in power for the next 40 years. Do you resemble that remark by Carville, or do you resent it? Speak up!
Let's review today's events: Arlen Specter has become a Democrat. That's a good thing, because now we can beat him twice. But not the way we are going. GM & Chrysler are now owned by the government and the UAW. This is the beginning of the end of our country unless we start now to fight back.
Attention Pat Toomey: Do you know that truck drivers are Republicans? When have Republican candidates ever made a trip to a truck stop in their "straight talk express" motorhomes? Never, is the answer.
Another question: When have Republican candidates ever made a trip to Sturgis, SD for biker week? Never is the answer. Did you know that bikers are Republicans? You have never thought about it, have you?
So I ask you, Pat Toomey, do you want to win the senate seat now held by Arlen Specter? If you do, we can help that happen. Put on some jeans and sneakers, and wear a "Pat Toomey for Senate" T-shirt, get into your motorhome and start going to truck stops, biker events, into the inner cities and to the outer cities, go to the WalMart parking lots and to the shopping malls, to the church parking lots after services, and anywhere else "street-level" Americans live & congregate.
Those of you who are receiving this E-mail, I am asking you to arrange a face-to-face meeting between Steve Miller and/or me (and any one else who might want to join the party) with Pat Toomey so that we can give him a road map to victory backed by a Pennsylvania army of thousands. Not with one of his flunkies, but with Toomey.
Right now, we are seeing a Republican party being led by the same people doing the same thing over & over again expecting a different result each time. It's not going to happen, unless we begin to take in new people with new ideas and then implement them.
Think of it this way, the Democrats are just jumping for joy seeing the same old people trying to lead the Republican party... they know it's a win-win for them. And a loss-loss for us.
So, we have nothing to lose by inviting a better class of losers to give it a try for us... hey, they might even help us win. Are you going to help change things? Or are you going to be satisfied with losing? .
Best regards to you all. Self-serving we lose. Together we can win. -- Mike Avery
A salute to Mike for his outstanding insights.

Palin: Learn From Bush's Failures
There is a purpose is discussing what GWB did right -- and what he did wrong. That purpose is to avoid making the same mistakes in the future. Yes, George W. Bush will be treated more kindly by history than he was during his presidency.
However . . .
My impression of GWB is that he wanted to be friends -- or at least on friendly terms -- with many in the MSM. That was a mistake in judgment. Those people do not want to be his "friends." They did not and do not respect him. That meant he needed to go over their heads directly to the people. Reagan did it, and so did Bill Clinton.
The American people had no stomach for impeaching (it did happen) or convicting (didn't happen) Bill Clinton for violating federal law.
``The Obama attacks on GWB, before and after the election, are unfair and even ridiculous. However, Axelrod/Emanuel/Obama are very good at deflecting attention to President Bush. It's critical that we be equally good at counter-attacking and, in fact, beating them to the punch. The President of the U.S. has great resources in hand to influence the public and (segments of) the media.
GWB did not use them effectively. In fact, GWB often allowed himself to be used as a punching bag. Yes, the MSM is "bad," but that's a given, and if a person can't overcome it, he probably shouldn't run for a job like President.
In PR and politics, if someone throws a brick at you, then respond by throwing a boulder at him. Suggesting that George W. Bush had only a few minor flaws and was done in by "mean" Democrats and media types serves no purpose. It's historically inaccurate.
Aside from keeping the nation secure and "No Child Left Behind," he accomplished little. Prescription drug coverage will add massively to the national debt.
It's my hope that Gov. Palin will have strong people around her who will understand what the media's up to and will respond with appropriate ferocity. The "friends" she has in the media -- and she does have many -- should get preferential treatment.
Her enemies need to get the back of her hand. She needs to undermine them before they undermine her. She seems much more aware of the media's goals (to end her political career) than GWB ever was.
At the beginning of her campaign -- and later in the transition period, if she's elected -- she needs to sit down with some very tough political people. She needs to know exactly what lies ahead for her -- and how to counteract the onslaught from Dems, the media, and the amoral Hollywood culture. She needs to demolish them before they sink her candidacy and presidency.
This should not be a secret strategy. It should be transparent and one she communicates explicitly to the American peopleAs for conservative talk radio people, it was GWB's obligation to listen carefully to what they -- and their listeners -- said. Limbaugh has an audience of 14 million-plus.
It was very unwise of the President to look at them with bemusement and not much more. Conservatives never felt GWB was "one of them." He should have done more to help establish common cause. The fact that he did not veto even ONE spending bill in his first term (and most of his second term) hurt him badly with conservatives.
We should continue to salute President Bush for keeping the country safe, a major accomplishment. However, we need to understand what he did wrong so that history doesn't repeat itself with the next Republican President (if there is one).

How YOU Can Defeat Obama

Palin: Ideologue Obama Killed Bipartisanship
"Obama soared to victory on the hopeful promise of a new era of bipartisanship. During his inaugural address he even promised an 'end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.'
"Too bad it took all of three days for the promise to ring hollow.
"Start with Obama's big meeting with top congressional leaders on his signature legislation -- the stimulus -- on the Friday after his inauguration. Listening to Republican concerns about overspending was a nice gesture -- until he shut down any hopes of real dialogue by crassly telling Republican leaders: 'I won.' Even the White House's leaking of the comment was a slap at the Republican leadership, who'd expected Obama to adhere to the custom of keeping private meetings with congressional leadership, well, private.
"It's only gone downhill from there. The stimulus included zero Republican recommendations, and failed to get a single House Republican vote.
"It's not just the tactic of using Republicans for bipartisan photo-ops, and then cutting them loose before partisan decisions, that irks Obama's opponents. The new president wasted no time rushing forward with policies and legislation guaranteed to drive Republicans nuts. The first bill he signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act -- a partisan hot-button that drew all of eight Republican supporters in the entire Congress. Then there was the swift reversal of Bush policies on abortion and embryonic-stem-cell research -- issues dear to the Republican base.

Palin-Hating "Feminists," Alaska Version
"The reaction of the intellectual elite to Sarah Palin was far more provincial than Palin herself ever has been, and those who reacted so viscerally against her evinced little or no appreciation for an essential premise of democracy: that practical wisdom matters at least as much as formal education, and that leadership can emerge from utterly unexpected places. The presumption that the only road to power passes through the Ivy League and its tributaries is neither democratic nor sensible, and is, moreover, a sharp and wrongheaded break from the American tradition of citizen governance." [Yuval Levin writing in Commentary about the psycho-social causes of what's become called "Palin Derangement Syndrome." Levin is a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, a Washington, DC think-tank.]

BOGUS ETHICS CHARGES AGAINST PALIN
This is one of those make-or-break times for Sarah Palin. In the face of increasingly ridiculous "ethics charges," she has to file countersuits for harassment and defamation. The ethics complaints have no purposes other than to distract, discourage, and bankrupt the Palins. When Alaska sleazebags are seeking to undermine their state's government, they must be stopped.
Press releases are NO LONGER ENOUGH.
[Bulletin: Someone claiming to be Celtic Diva (Linda Kellen Biegel) of Alaska, mentioned below, wrote me and said she had filed fewer than the six ethics charges I mentioned below. I gave the person my phone number and asked her to call me to clarify her suits and confirm her identity. She has not responded as of 11 p.m. ET.)
The latest "ethics" charge is by Ms. Sondra Tompkins of Anchorage, Alaska, prominently portraying herself as the mother of a special-needs child. Basically, the "charge" is that Sarah went to Indiana (on a trip financed by SarahPAC) and talked to two meetings, one to a pro-life group and the other to parents of special needs children. Sarah Palin is the most effective advocate nationally (not just in Alaska) for special needs children . . . yet the charge is filed by the mother of a special needs child? This goes beyond the usual Obama "dirty-tricks-and-defamations."
It is bizarre. It is sick. AND IT MUST BE STOPPED.
[Ms. Sondra Tompkins was featured in The Alaska Democrat, the Democrat Party's online organ, as an enthusiastic participant in an anti-Palin demonstration on September 14, 2008.
http://www.alaskademocrats.org/index.php?page=news&full=856] Her exact relationship with the Alaska and national Democrat Parties is not clear.]
Sarah has to fight back with ferocity . . . and take no prisoners. Our role is to support Sarah of course, but beyond that, to urge her to use every legal means at HER disposal. She probably needs a first class private investigator to find out who's behind "Celtic Diva" (who has filed SIX ethics charges) and Ms. Tompkins. Sarah needs to file counter-suits and seek civil judgments. These people are harming her AND HER FAMILY.
Beyond that, they are making the state of Alaska a laughing-stock. They are making the state look like "Dogpatch," an entity where profoundly unethical people file countless "ethics suits." Sarah has to do whatever is necessary legally and politically to stop people who are doing great damage to her state.
Her lawyers need to begin taking depositions from the people launching frivolous lawsuits. The conspiracies underway need to be revealed . . . and the connections to the Obama Campaign unearthed. "Diva," Tompkins, and others need to be forced to pay for the legal costs and they must be hit with cease-and-desist orders.
It may be that Bristol Palin will need to file suits for damages against Levi and the Johnston family. She needs to go to court immediately to ensure that Levi pays child support his child.
The depositions will be the key. Chronic liars like Levi must be forced to testify under oath.
The alternative for Sarah? It's nothing less than "death by a thousand cuts."
She needs legal defense, but beyond that. she needs legal OFFENSE. Sarah and her attorneys need to be the main players in this effort. If she doesn't do this, then for her -- and those who succeed her -- Alaska will become ungovernable. Palin haters like Biegel and Tompkins will have inherited the earth.

Hockey Moms and Capital Markets
Sarah Palin is one of what's known in Great Britain as the "shire-folk," country people. who live well outside the big cities' suburbs. Consider the following from J. R. R. Tolkien: "This is the hour of the Shire-folk, when they arise from their quiet fields to shake the towers and counsels of the Great. Who of all the Wise could have foreseen it?" --Elrond, Lord of the Rings
The fact that Sarah Palin is of the shire-folk -- and not a fellow elitist -- is precisely what scares Obama most -- more perhaps than Iran, more than North Korea, more than Pakistan. He believes he can talk them to death, but that's not possible with Sarah Palin. Obama believes "there is no life outside the Beltway." Sarah believes no such thing. What frightens Obama is that Sarah's goal is to banish him from his beloved Beltway.
Goldman's piece is at: http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Global_Economy/JJ07Dj07.html
Here's are some of the more poignant parts:
"What does America have that Asia doesn't have? The answer is, Sarah Palin - not Sarah Palin the vice presidential candidate, but Sarah Palin the "hockey mom" turned small-town mayor and reforming Alaska governor. All the PhDs and MBAs in the world can't make a capital market work, but ordinary people like Sarah Palin can.
Laws depend on the will of the people to enforce them. It is the initiative of ordinary people that makes America's political system the world's most reliable. America is the heir to a long tradition of Anglo-Saxon law that began with jury trial and the Magna Carta and continued through the English Revolution of the 17th century and the American Revolution of the 18th. Ordinary people like Palin are the bearers of this tradition.
Outside of the United States, the young governor of Alaska has become a figure of ridicule - someone who did not own a passport until last year and who quaintly believes that her state's proximity to Russia gives her insights on foreign policy. How, my European friends ask, was it possible for such an an ignorant bumpkin to become a candidate for America's second-highest office? They don't understand America.
Provincial America depends on the initiative of ordinary people to get through the day. America has something like an Education Ministry, but it has little money to dispense.
Americans pay for most of their school costs out of local taxes, and levy those taxes on themselves. In small towns, many public agencies, including fire protection and emergency medical assistance, depend almost entirely on volunteers. People who tax themselves, and give their own time and money for services on which communities depend, are not easily cowed by the federal government or by large corporations.
Palin's career may look like a poor imitation of a Preston Sturges script, but films such as Hail the Conquering Hero (1944) struck a chord with Americans precisely because the character type of the ordinary man or woman who takes on entrenched interests is instantly recognizable in America.
Palin really did take on the American oil companies and turn the scoundrels out of office. Her predecessor, Frank Murkowski, appointed her to the state oil and gas commission in the apparent belief that a small-town mayor and former beauty queen would rubber-stamp corrupt deals between the state and the Big Oil companies.
Shades of Jimmy Stewart in Mr Smith Goes to Washington: Palin ran against Murkowski and took his job. That does not qualify her to be president, to be sure, but it does show cunning and strength of character. Palin is qualified for high office by temperament if not by education, and is preferable to candidates whose education has made no improvement on their characters.
"One doesn't see demonstrations by wronged peasants in the small towns of America. There never were peasants - American farmers always were entrepreneurs - and the locals avenge injury by taking over their local governments, which have sufficient authority to make a difference. At the capillary level, school boards, the Parent Teachers' Association, self-administered religious organizations and volunteer organizations incubate a political class entirely different from anything to be found in Asia. There are tens of thousands of Sarah Palins lurking in the minor leagues of American politics, and they are the guarantors of market probity."
James C. adds the following comments: "Contrary to claims by our current president, 'ordinary and common' Americans are not bitter and clinging to guns and God; rather they exercise and demonstrate their commitment to family, faith, hunting, and hard work. I've heard those and other critiques before, about the lack of foreign policy experience, the ‘provincialness’, or lack of 'sophistication' whatever these terms mean from the other side of the Atlantic, mostly from upper class Oxbridge (Oxford & Cambridge graduates) toffs, Tony Blair’s Nu-Labour, and Guardianist's who maintained a healthy contempt for the Sarah Palin’s of the UK- 'Middle Englanders' and 'Daily Mail Readers' and 'Rural people'. I think a more apt term is' Shire-folk' as Tolkien would describe them.
"No, that doesn’t mean that Sarah Palin or other 'Middle Americans' are hobbits, but Tolkien’s metaphors still ring true for the Shire-folk of America as they did for the Shire-folk of England.
"Like America, it's the Middle Englanders who make England work in spite of Whitehall. In fact, it wasn’t that long ago that Margaret Thatcher, a girl from a small town in England, worked her way up to become the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. One can only hope that happens in this nation."
Thanks James. You have a profound understanding of this country . . . and of Gov. Sarah Palin.
Revelation: Obama, Palin Class Warfare
When this news gets fully understood, Barack Obama is going to start looking like a one-term president, a fate that America-dissing imposter richly deserves.
The following is from James D'Troy, a superb analyst of the way Sarah's middle-class (non-elitist) status is used against her by Obama/Axelrod, the compliant media, and the collected nutcases of Hollywood. James's analysis shows the causes of what's widely known as "Palin Derangement Syndrome," in which irrational hatred of Gov. Palin springs up in our culture. The fascinating thing is how much more sophisticated and insightful James's essay is than anything produced by the MSM:
"As for the issue of class, I've had some debates on another board about this very issue . . . [The following is] lengthy . . . but I feel it addresses many of the issues of class. . . . The person whom I was arguing with has his quotes bracketed with my responses following them in quotations.
[Quote: By what standard is Palin a lower class woman (unless you know something about her morals that the rest of us do not)?]
"Nice assumption, lower class = low morals...lower class wasn’t the right term, more working class-lower middle/middle class if anything. Her husband, Todd, is definitely working class-oil worker, commercial fisherman-snowmobile racer-whom she helped for a considerable time supporting. Her own family, is lower middle to middle class-mother a secretary, father a high school science teacher, you should like that part..."
[Quote: Economically, she is quite well off perhaps not compared to McCain or Obama, but certainly more so than your average Joe Sixpack (and much of the elitist "mainstream media" for that matter).]
"Actually, as far as income, at best she’s middle to upper middle class now, rather nice she was able to work up that far, as opposed to her income working for her husbands fishing business, or her salary on the Wasilla City Council-$6000.00/annum, Wasila mayoral salary-$75,000/annum, not bad but well within working-class/middle class standards (do you have any idea how much my plumber & electrician made this year?) and not nearly as high as those in the elitist mainstream media.
"The Palin family’s adjusted gross income of $166,080 for 2007 makes them better off than many Americans but it also puts them no higher than the middle class even by Obama's definition of ‘middle class’ which appears to set the ceiling for middle class at around $250,000 per couple.
"Even by Washington, NY, LA, or Chicago standards, $166,080 is not a lot of money with five kids. There are ‘journalists’ in DC who make more than the governor's $125,000 salary. True, not all but still a fair number. We can talk about the Palin’s total family wealth(property, fish share rights, etc.) estimated at anywhere from $1-3 million which is not considered uncommon for a working/middle-upper middle class family depending upon the housing market.
"Yet, you’re still not grasping the concept of 'class'. It isn’t solely about income, it’s about education and educational pedigree, social circles, social activities, religion, and occupation. It’s the difference between public high school, community colleges & University of Idaho (state uni. ) paid by scholarships, financial aid, part-time & full-time work, and bank of Mom & Dad Heath vs. Punahu (private high school), Occidental (private uni.), Columbia (private uni.), and Harvard Law (private grad. school) paid by the bank of Grandma & Grandpa Dunham, and racist Saudi advisers c.f. Khalid Al-Mansour.
"It’s also the difference between choices exercised how to spend money; on guns, ATV’s and dirt bikes/snowmobile racing for off-roading vs. trips to martial law Pakistan, Asia & Africa. It’s the difference between a non-denominational church vs. Episcopalian (National Cathedral, Washington DC) or for some reason overlooked a racist, anti-Semitic black separatist church hating whitey. It’s the difference between working on a fishing boat with your spouse vs. working at a Law firm and university(Chicago) with your fellow lawyer wife and terrorist Bernadine Dohrn.
"It’s about expectations for your children: no college vs. college vs. military service vs. married after high school vs. prep school in tony Washington DC. It’s about where you live: small town America(Wasila & Juneau-Pop. 30,000) vs. Kenwood, Chicago, Illinois-with neighbors like Bill Ayers and Louis Farrakhan. Class can be seen in the choices people make from their cars, hobbies, to spending habits, to even the type of dog they own (rottweiler vs. "Bo" the First Dog)
It’s all more complex than your post allows.
[Quote:Most of the contempt aimed at Palin was due to her lack of intellect, education, and (most damning, IMHO) curiosity about the world.]
"No, most of the contempt was aimed at her perceived inexperience (although vis-a-vis Obama, she had more than him all without the disturbing links to numerous left-wing bigots and Chicago slimeballs), her supposed ethical improprieties(trooper-gate, etc), her working-class background (How Williams, Couric, and Gibson, and the media loved the Obamessiah European tour!!!), lack of Ivy League education, perceived religious beliefs (the 'evil spirits' prayer), pregnant teen-age daughter (How White Trash of the Palin family!!!!) or c.f Andrew Sullivan, was Palin hiding another birth?), allegations about Palin seeking to ban books, and overall alleged lack of sophistication that didn’t meet the elitist standards of the mainstream media, which did not show her in the best light c.f. Charlie Gibson’s (Princeton B.A.) [and Katie Couric, B.A. University of Virginia] edited and sneering interview vs. the kid gloves treatment Obama received.
"More importantly, you should worry less about whether someone has been to Europe or outside the US, and worry more about their records and the responsibilities they’ve shouldered and whether they can do the job. The fact that Obama spent most of his life around people who were left-wing ideologues and/or bigots(mother, bio-father, step-father, uncle ‘Frank’, Chandoo Brothers, Edward Said, Rashid Khalidi, Khalid Al-Mansour, Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dorhn, Michille Obama, Father. Pflegler, Rev. Wrong, Raila Odinga, et al.) sans the last two running as POTUS is something conveniently ignored by the media, and people like you and the Americans who voted for style over substance.
"However, what is indisputable is that culturally, economically, and socially, Palin, was brought up in a working class-middle class environment and for most of her life has been part of that working class-middle class social and economic circle, recent history notwithstanding. That makes her set of experiences totally and completely in line with what the majority of most Americans experience and can relate to as opposed to Obama, whose life has been so bizarre and ideologically vested, that the only way one can illustrate the degree to which it is bizarre and ideological is to compare it to a right-wing analog.
In spite of that, it was all ignored because even though Sarah Palin was closer and better representative of the majority of Americans, the media wanted to showcase the narrative of a black man becoming president. In addition, what is also indisputable is that the message sent from the East Coast media, political, and social elite to the nation and especially the white working classes through Palin’s media ravaging was that although they want nothing to do with ‘small town/rural America’, they still wanted to rule over them."

Bombshell: Palin Class Hatred Victim
The hatred displayed toward Sarah Palin by media people, Hollywood types, the Obama Campaign, and the political establishment is less sexism than class hostility.
I got the following comment (below this paragraph) on one of my blogs, and I believe this guy has hit the target right in the center. The people who turned out in great numbers to see Sarah Palin in Beaver County ("guns and God" folks) were largely from union families. Sarah Palin reminds me of some of the girls I grew up with in an unaffluent part of the Rochester, NY area, smart, good looking, very tough, and only marginally middle-class if that. Most of the people who have run for very high office since 1988 have been Harvard and Yale types -- and very wealthy. There's an unspoken rule that middle-class people, especially women, should not run for President or VP. If they are serious about their religious faith, that's another "disqualification." Obama is one of those Columbia/Harvard types I ran into in the academic world, individuals who really aren't all that bright, but the Harvard "shine" hides that reality. The sad fact is that 299-million-plus Americans (out of 300 million) have little or no chance of ever becoming President.
JamesD'Troy has left a new comment on your post "Why Some Conservatives Dislike Palin": What was apparent for me this past election was that the hatred towards Gov. Palin was based upon not only based upon sexism but a less acknowledged divisive issue: Class. The sexism shown towards Gov. Palin has been discussed, less acknowledged is that both Conservatives and Liberals despised her because she was essentially, a working class woman.
I've heard criticisms similar to those made towards Gov. Palin before, only in the UK, from upper class twits from Oxford and Cambridge. The dirty little secret that came out this past election IMO, was that this nation is as much divided by class as by anything else. Take a look at the reaction by the elitist MSM towards 'Joe the Plumber' or more recently, the Tea Parties. The message from MSM members like Charles Gibson (Princeton), Anderson Cooper (Yale), and countless others from NY, LA, and Washington could not have been clearer: Though they want nothing to do with small town Americans who are 'bitter and cling to their guns and God' they still want to rule them.
Note from Steve: Katie Couric is Univ. of Virginia (same thing). Much more on this issue for Wednesday's column.
McCain Never Understood Sarah Palin
The McCain incident that helped seal his fate was when he dissed the older woman (in Wisconsin) with a McCain-Palin sweatshirt. She said she was afraid Obama was a "Muslim" -- which he may be in beliefs. McCain grabbed the mike from her and expressed some obvious disgust at what she was saying. He said, "You have nothing to fear from an Obama presidency" and added, "He's a family man." He basically was implying, "Hey, go ahead and vote for Obama."
McCain, a member of the Senate Gentleman's Club, had and has no understanding of why people rightly feared -- and fear -- Obama. He also apparently had no understanding of why he wanted to run for President. The Wisconsin episode was one of the most shameful moments among many in the disastrous McCain campaign.
When McCain mentions his favorite candidates, he never -- ever -- mentions a female candidate, including Gov. Palin. He doesn't know any Republican women who merit high office -- not Kathy Douglas of Wshington state, not Jodi Rell (Governor of CT), not Linda Lingel (Governor of HI), and not Marcia Blackburn, congresswoman from TN.
Sarah Palin defended him ferociously during the campaign as he blundered from state to state, drawing crowds that could fit in a telephone booth. McCain dearly wanted to name his "friend," Joe Lieberman, a liberal Democrat who's recently been sucking up to Obama and Reid. McCain had no real understanding of what his political base believed -- or why Lieberman would be a spectacularly bad choice. Lieberman's appeal to Republicans is almost non-existent.
Sarah Palin has the kind of integrity and toughness that scare McCain. She does not look at politics as a "game that older, rich white guys play." She appeals to people because they identify with her, see her a role model and an inspiration.
McCain wants to be a "player" in DC politics. Sarah Palin wants to be a leader.

Why Some Conservatives Dislike Palin
At the Glenn Beck rally in San Antonio, Janine Turner (my long-time heroine) gave tremendous support for Sarah Palin, and the most recognizable signs at many rallies were "ReadMyLipstick" in regard to Sarah and taxes.
O'Reilly cited the Politco poll that showed her with fairly high negatives, but that survey is very suspect since Jonathan Martin, head of Politico, is no fan of Sarah's. Hannity likes Sarah; Beck does (partly because he has a special needs child), and so obviously does Greta. FOX really loves the dour Mark Sanford, who has no chance of being elected to anything outside of SC.
Some at FOX may fear Sarah because she's a (shudder) Republican and governs as a (double shudder) centrist. She's not a gay-basher (far from it), and walks the pro-life path rather than yammer about it constantly. She's not an ideologue, and frankly many on the Left and on the Right are more comfortable with ideologues, who talk the predictable lines. Sarah governs in accord with the state and federal Constitutions -- how novel is that?
Sarah reminds me of Robert Frost's epitaph: "He had a lover's quarrel with the world." As SNL producer Lorne Michaels (a liberal) said about Sarah, she's a model of "graciousness." Most big-time politicians are NOT gracious (or nice). Sarah never said anything negative about HRC before, during, or after the campaign, even though they disagree on various things. She realizes that if it wasn't for Hillary, McCain would not have chosen her for the ticket.
In fact, some of Sarah's strongest supporters are Democrats (current and former) and/or feminists, such as Elaine Lafferty, Camille Paglia, Tammy Bruce, Artemis March, Marnie Delano, Karen Hill, Anne Franklin, Shelley Mandel (head of LA NOW), Kathy (Puma4Palin), S.E. Cupp, and Lynn Rothschild (during the campaign at least). Ironically, a good deal of the feminist support has to do with . . . Todd Palin, the good-looking macho guy who changes the diapers and has no spouse envy.
My constant refrain lately has been: THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH SARAH PALIN. She's a principled human being, a great wife and mother, and an elected official of unparalleled integrity and ability. Some will never forgive her for having those qualities, which make lesser beings feel uncomfortable . . . and envious.

Why CNN Hates Sarah Palin
A while back, Alino Cho, a CNN reporter, was on the morning show with John Roberts & Kiran Chetry, and she cited a study which had determined the most stressful job in America. What was it they asked her? She said, "news show hosts and hostesses." Why. they enquired? She said, "Because they're so afraid of losing their jobs."
If she'd added 'losing their job and their status" she would have explained why the entertainment/media cultures have so many leftists. They are afraid. Somebody might be suspiciouos if they didn't slobber all over Obama. Thus, Sarah Palin gets attacked because people are trying to solidify their status and keep their (over-paid, but basically trivial) jobs.
Sarah Palin is not rich. In fact, she and Todd, because of the legal bills, are in debt up to their eyebrows. Of course, most big-time national politicians (Obama, Clinton, Kennedy, Rockefeller, McCain, Edwards (John), Kerry, Romney, Giuiliani, Gingrich) are not middle-class folks; they're rich males (except for Hillary). Barack Obama's income last year was $2.7 million. Joe Biden made nearly $270,000 -- and gave a whopping $1,900 to charity.
Washington politicians are certainly not mothers (or fathers) of five children. And most of all, they're not from Alaska, which to Beltway types is the equivalent of Al Capp's Dogpatch.
Notable female politicians are not attractive women -- instead they look like Janet Napolitano or Barbara Mikulski or Janet Reno. So, the media response to Sarah was that, if she's that beautiful, she must be dumb as a doorknob. All the women they know fall into that category. Also, she has more than the approved "2.3 children."
If anybody in Hollywood or Manhattan or Georgetown had a Down Syndrome child -- and trust me, they'd have aborted it in a New York minute -- they wouldn't send out a release starting with the words "God has blessed us...." as the Palins did. The reason Trig's maternity gets questioned is that elitists can't imagine anyone actually having such an offspring. Obama's gaffe (on Leno, of course) about the Special Olympics demonstrated what he really thinks about children that would be in said Olympics.
But why has John McCain -- more clueless with each passing day -- joined in with the anti-Sarah crowd? As someone recently said about McCain, "the most important thing to him is that he wants to be a . . . player [in DC]."
McCain was a terrible candidate. Sarah Palin defended him ferociously, and no one else did. He left me, a McCain supporter, wondering what the hell he was doing running for President.
Seriously, the man has been in public life for 30 years, and he still can't deliver a speech that doesn't sound as if he were reading the phone book? He has no idea how to raise money? Conservative don't like him, while liberal despise and make fun of him? Thus, he served as a punching bag for Obama and his (McCain's) supposed "friend," Joe Biden.
It's not surprising that Sarah -- the one bright light for Republicans in the last election -- became the McCain Campaign's "designated scapegoat." By far the most money John McCain ever raised in one 24-hour period ($6 million) in his campaign came on the day he announced Sarah was his pick. And. somewhere in John McCain's increasingly shriveled heart, he profoundly resented it. "Hey, I'm the war hero, so why do they love her more than me?" Because, John, to most Americans you're the old guy that kept their ball when it accidentally rolled into your yard.
The McCain campaign staff apparently resented Sarah because she was able to generate three things they couldn't: crowds, money, and votes. McCain is a guy who abandoned his first (and badly injured) wife. His second wife has kept him in luxury. Women voters rejected him en masse in the election. I bet in high school he brought his cousin to the prom.
Sarah Palin was much more popular with male voters than McCain. Sarah was young, vibrant, healthy, and dynamic, while McCain was none of those. What goes on in McCain's psyche regarding females would make a fascinating psychological study.
He chose Sarah to bring back conservatives (which she did) and to attract (mostly liberal) Hillary Supporters, two contradictory goals. In other words, he set Sarah up to be denounced "because she's not Hillary." True, she's not, for which Todd Palin (and the rest of us) are eternally grateful.

Why the Left Hates Sarah
That was quickly followed by a news story (believe it was the Memphis newspaper) that 'Bristol is pregnant!" The implication of the revelation was "Bristol is pregnant, and therefore social conservatives should hate Sarah!" Social conservatives didn't fall for it (although there has been a chipping away over time).
The charges have become increasingly outrageous. One feminist claimed that Sarah wore "clear glasses" in order to make her appear more intellectual. She has worn glasses since she was 10. Jonathan Martin of Politico, in the Hall of Fame of Palin haters, claimed Sarah was "shrilly anti-abortion," and Politico has been after her since the end of August.
When Martin made his "shrill" claim, I had been following her for nearly a year, and I'd never heard her say anything about abortion. Martin, a true journalistic slug, apparently assumed she was anti-abortion (she is) and thus must be "shrill" about it (she's not).
In early September, the Fowlers of SC -- he the former head of the DNC -- initiated one of a series of slurs. Theirs was something like "Palin's main qualification for V-P is that she didn't have an abortion."
Soon, the MSM began to chime in with "Palin is stupid." SNL's treatment hurt Palin. David Letterman, a true dunce, constantly hacked away at Sarah, once saying, "She didn't know certain letters of the alphabet." Letterman had Katie Couric on his show several times to hurl mud at Sarah.
Bob Shieffer of CBS had called Sarah "a pistol-packing mama." They didn't know anybody like Sarah. The had never met such a being. Clearly, they'd never had such a person to their cocktail parties.
When Katie asked Sarah what newspapers she read, the underlying implication was that Sarah is a hillbilly waving a Sears Catalog. If Sarah had said the NYT and WaPo, she might have instantly made herself a member of the "club." A variation of Katie's question might have been, "Do you actually know how to read? And, if so, where did you learn how to do it?"
Many of the charges against Sarah bordered on the nonsensical, but they were carefully crafted -- apparently by David Axelrod and transmitted to Daily Kos, Democratic Underground, Huffington Post, and Moveon.org -- to hurt Sarah with urban and suburban females. That in fact did happen. The charges that Sarah made women pay for rape kits and banned books -- both of them totally false -- will still be hanging around in 2020 if she's running for anything.
Has any woman come forward or talked off the record to say she was forced to pay for a rape kit? Has any specific book been "banned?" To both questions, the answer is: Of course not.
The fact that Sarah (unlike Obama, unlike any Democrat) had criticized or opposed members of her Party, that she has kept Alaska's taxes the lowest in the country, that she has FIVE children (one military, one special needs), that she's married to true "workingman," that she and her husband are great athletes, that she proves a Governor doesn't have to look like a catcher's mitt, and that she not only talks the talk but walks the walk -- all such things became irrelevant.
To the entertainment and media elites (increasingly one and the same), she became less a punchline than a person. This is the woman who stiffed Big Oil and engineered a $40 billion deal with TransCanada for the huge natural gas pipeline.) She's the embodiment of the American Dream, but somehow that didn't impress the elitists. While the Left was clamoring for her to drop off the ticket, she went out and delivered the most effective political speech in the past generation.
Sadly, the McCain Campaign failed to prep her adequately or to defend her, but she went out and soldiered on, drawing crowds that were usually bigger than Obama's (60,000 in Jacksonville, FL). They were often five times the size of the "crowds" McCain drew. Apparently, McCain spent much of the campaign seething about -- and envious of -- his running mate.
Her V-P counterpart, Joe Biden, went out and delivered one gaffe and whopper after another (e.g., that he was talking to the common folks at a Wilmington Diner that had been closed for 15 years), but he was given a free pass. To the media, he "looked" like a vice president -- that is, he was male and gray-haired -- while Sarah (female) didn't.
Meanwhile, at the Democratic Convention, Katie Couric was repeating Biden's biggest lie -- that his first wife and baby daughter had been killed by a drunk driver. Katie Couric is a newsreader with low ratings. Sarah Palin is (hopefully) a future President of the U.S.
(See my recent columns on Biden's lying problem at http://stevemaloneygop.blogspot.com/ on Biden)
Michelle Obama: How Many Abortions?
After all, if Sarah Palin and her family are fair game for any conceivable questions, then the same should be true of the Obama family. If Bristol Palin's sex life and contraception practices are fit subjects for the media, then why should the Obamas --including their children -- be excluded from similar enquiries? What's fair for the goose should also be fair for the gander.
Consider Sarah Palin's recent comments on what things annoy her.
"Bored, anonymous, pathetic bloggers who lie annoy me....I'll tell you, yesterday the Anchorage Daily News, they called again to ask — double-, triple-, quadruple-check — who is Trig's real mom. And I said, Come on, are you kidding me? We're gonna answer this? Do you not believe me or my doctor? And they said, No, it's been quite cryptic the way that my son's birth has been discussed. And I thought, Okay, more indication of continued problems in the world of journalism."
Do I really believe the MSM will ask Michelle Obama -- and at a later date, her daughters, Sasha and Malia -- questions about their sex lives and contraception practices? No, it will never happen. The Obama children -- and Michelle herself -- are "off limits." Thus, it's okay to ask them nonsensical questions concerning the "First Dog" but not about much else. (If questions about the pooch are the only ones deemed appropriate, then we might enquire what happened to the "rescue dog" Obama previously mentioned.
Michelle Obama, "America's First Lady," has spent much of her life -- going back to her days at Princeton -- advocating Black Separatism. Like her husband, she spent 20 years attending a church, one headed by Rev. Wright, preaching Black Liberation Theology. Among other charges, Wright said that the U. S. government "invented" the AIDS virus in order to kill Black people.
Why isn't the media asking if Michelle Obama agrees with Rev. Wright? Of even more interest, does Barack Obama agree with his former pastor? And do Sasha and Malia have any views on the subject?
The American people know very little about Barack and Michelle Obama. The media should rectify that, but it probably won't.

Esquire: Finally, Truth About Palins
http://www.esquire.com/features/todd-palin-bio-0509
http://www.esquire.com/features/what-ive-learned/sarah-palin-interview-0309 [Todd Palin also appears in Men's Journal that hit the newsstand on April 10th. http://www.mensjournal.com/iron-todd He was also the subject of a Sports Illustrated special on their website a few weeks ago as well about the Iron Dog race. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/the_bonus/03/10/palin/index.html]
"Sarah Palin: What I've Learned"
On the McCain Campaign Pulling Out of States Like Michigan . . .
We pulled out of some states that I believe we should have continued to campaign in and sent a stronger message that those states really mattered, regardless of the number of electoral votes there. The people mattered. I would have loved to have had more influence on where it was that we campaigned. "
On Why She Likes to Go Running . . .
"Running is my sanity. Sweat is my sanity. And that was a frustration of mine on the campaign trail, when we couldn't carve out a half an hour or an hour a day to run. The day never went as well as it would have had I had that time to go sweat."
On People Making the Claim that Sarah is "Hot"
"Hot? If only people could see me as I come in from a run early in the morning without a trough full of makeup on, I think that they'd have a different opinion."
On Unwinding After a Long Day . . .
"After a long day, if the weather's good, I like to take a long, hot run to unwind. Otherwise, lately, I take a bath with Trig, and I answer e-mails, and then we all fall asleep in my big bed while we listen to Piper read her Junie B. Jones books out loud. She's learning to read, and she'll read for hours on end. It's idyllic. It's amazing."
Sarh Palin on Bloggers and the Current World of Journalism . . .
On Sarah's Relationship with God . . .
"I know He hears me when I just call out to Him, which I do a lot. Oh, yes, I pray. I talk to God every day. I've put my life, so I put my day, into God's hands, and I just ask for guidance and wisdom and grace to get through one situation after another."

Questions Levi Johnston Must Answer
Note: On my other blog (http://stevemaloneygop.blogspot.com) I've written several columns on Vice President Joe Biden's history of lies. Biden's lies, especially his defamation of a Delaware family should have disqualified him from any high office, but the MSM, as usual, has given him a free pass.)
"He who pays the piper chooses the tune." Levi is the piper, and when we find out exactly who's paying him, we find out who's the source of Levi's public statements.
Is Levi Johnston really being paid? Well, Levi has no job and, given his lack of education and skills, he doesn't exactly have many occupational prospects. On the other hand, he magically has enough money to fly (along with his mother and sister) from Anchorage to New York City and back. Presumably, the Johnstons didn't stay at the Motel 6 and dine at Wendys. And then there's Levi's new pickup, which cost a bundle. Levi, enquiring minds want to know where the money came from.
The questions I've raised above should be ones asked by the media, both in Alaska and in "the lower-48." Unfortunately, the media -- ranging from the Anchorage Daily News to the New York Timesand the national networks, aren't very good at asking questions of those who are criticizing Sarah Palin or her children. So, it falls to those of us in the humble blogosphere to do the media's job. And do it we will. Levi's reputation as "America's Sleazebag" is destined go grow.
Previous column is below
Levi Johnston was Paid Off
Hint: Levi Johnston and his family are being paid off for trashing Sarah and Bristol Palin. The motto of the reporters (Woodward and Bernstein) in Watergate was to "follow the money." The modern MSM doesn't follow payoffs as long as there's a whiff of salaciousness to focus on. [Note: On my other blog, http://stevemaloneygop.blogspot.com I have Thurs. and Fri. columns on Joe Biden's pathological lying over the years, especially his mythical story about the details of the death of his first wife and infant daughter in a 1972 traffic accident.]
This column marks the beginning of effort to raise the intriguing question of where Levi Johnston and his family -- with his mother under indictment for drug sales -- are getting tens of thousands of dollars to pay for various expenses, including flights (for Levi, his mother, and his sister) to NY (at a cost of approximately $7,500) for the Tyra Banks show, as well as for the shiny new pick-up truck that the unemployed Levi (who apparently can't pay child care expenses) is driving. (Hey, at least Levi doesn't sell out his former "beloved" and his current son for mere peanuts.)
Obviously, the money comes from Obama supporters like George Soros and the investment bankers Obama is bailing out with billions of dollars, payoffs in their own right. I can't dot all the i's on l'affaire Levi yet, but if something stinks like a skunk, well, it's not the first rose of summer. And Levi and his odious mother are smelling very skunk-like these days.
Since the Tyra Bankses of the world can't ask Levi any hard questions, well, we have to do the job for them.
Perhaps someone will be very daring and ask Mrs. Johnston who's paying her whopping legal expenses these days. Hint: It's not the Palin-for-President Committee. I don't believe Mrs. Johnston has much money lying around from her former profession of selling oxycontin.
Am I claiming that Obama, Axelrod, and Emanuel ("The Triangle of Evil") are making direct payments to the Johnstons? Silly question: that's why people like Obama and Axelrod have bagmen. As Richard Nixon put it, in politics, "deniability" is everything.
Consider Bristol Palin's comment that some people (hint: she meant Levi and his delightful family) were using the "Palin name" in order to make "money." Bristol is getting wiser by the moment.
If you'd like to read more about the Johnston family, I urge you to check out Ron Devito's blog at: http://sarahs-accomplishments.blogspot.com/2009/04/salacious-news-coverage-levi-johnston.html. Ron is a young guy, but he has the ability, as a friend of mine once put it, "to find out where the bones are buried."There will be more to come this weekend. I urge you to pass this material on to friends and allies.

Sarah is Strong, Obama Weak
I'm sure it's a matter of great relief to Barack Hussein Obama that, since the campaign is over, he no longer has to mention -- perhaps ever -- his religious faith, presuming (as I do not) that he has any. With his removal of the "Conscience Clause," which allows health professionals to avoid actions at variance with their beliefs, Obama demonstrates that he has little regard, if any, for the concept of conscience, that part of our being that separates little details like right . . . and wrong.
If any of you would like to read an action-oriented analysis regarding Obama's attempt to overturn the "Conscience Clause," please e-mail me at: TalkTop65@aol.com. I'll send you a copy of the material Jacquerie at WAM08.org sent out on Wednesday.
WAM08.org is one of the best, most practical groups that have formed to defeat, whenever possible, our cynical, amoral, self-centered President. Jacquerie believes the way you defeat political thugs like Obama-Axelrod-Emanuel (America's three-headed monster) is to outwork them and outsmart them. She's doing both. Again, if you'd like to see her superb action-material, please e-mail me at TalkTop65@aol.com. All the best to all of you. (And attend your local Tea Party!)
