Sarah's Critics: Moral Reprobates, Haters

Sarah Palin's critics hate pictures like this one, apparently because it reminds them of the relative emptiness of their own lives.

The recent criticisms of Sarah Palin by celebrity Ashley Judd and District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald were as predictable as they were malicious. In fact, most of those that take such pot-shots at Gov. Palin are thoroughly contemptible. They're almost invariably offended by the fact she's a Christian, a faith that's incomprehensible to Judd and Buchwald, a faithful spouse, and an dedicated mother who involves her chilren in her life.

Buchwald and Judd are both Democrats, of course. Thus, they recognize Sarah as a threat to their political scams.

Judd reflects a Hollywood culture that celebrates immorality, materialism, and substance abuse. It's a world where money counts -- and ordinary people don't. As far as children go, they're beings who, shortly after birth, are handed off to a collection of nannies -- and told to return when they're 18. It's the world of David Letterman, where sluttish creatures like Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Ashley Judd are welcomed nightly as "honored guests."

Judge Buchwald lives in a world characterized by endless lawsuits, high-priced lawyers, and moral depravity. Her husband "represented" -- served as a lawyer for -- Ashley Dupre, the prostitute in the Elliott Spitzer case. What Judge Reice thinks of Miss Dupre and of former Governor and fellow Democrat Spitzer is not clear, but one can imagine.

As for Ms. Judd, what she knows about "wildlife management," an issue for which she's a fundraising shill, could be written on the head of a pin. To someone like her, vicious wolves are cuddly little creatures that she once saw in a Disney movie. The fact that the wolves slaughter caribous and moose -- especially the young and infirm -- never crossed her pea-sized brain.

What are we to make of Sarah's perfervid critics? Most of them are hostile to normal Americans, including Gov. Palin and her family. If they became pregnant with a Down Syndrome child, they would abort it immediately. They place no value on such a child. They certainly wouldn't say that "Got had blessed" them, as Todd and Sarah did when Trig was born.

Sarah Palin is a woman well on her way to making history in America and the world. As for the Judds and Buchwalds of the world, the world will little note -- nor long remember -- them. Sarah should swat them like mosquitos carrying the West Nile virus.

Palin Tops Obama on HealthCare

Barack Obama could learn a lot about healthcare by reading a copy of the speech Sarah Palin gave yesterday in Alaska . . .

Sarah says (in italics)

"Simply increasing budgets every year, a common government practice, is no guarantee of success. More often, it's an incentive to failure. Good public policy is accountable for results, and focused on critical priorities.

"In this [Alaska legislative] chamber, we share a commitment to serious health-care reform. We've learned from experience that all the answers do not come from Washington. When Congress turns to health-care reform this year, we look to our delegation to make the case for greater competition, more private sector choices, and less litigation in the health-care market. But we're not going to wait. Here, reform can move forward without delay.

" . . . [H]ealth care reform on an individual basis is often just this simple: we could save a lot of money, and a lot of grief, by making smarter choices.

"It starts by ending destructive habits, and beginning healthy habits in eating and exercise. In my case, it's hard to slack when you have the ever-present example of an Iron Dogger nearby. But many of us could use a little more time in our great outdoors - and when you live in the Great Land, there's no excuse.

"Protecting good health is largely a matter of personal responsibility, but government policy can help. Our new Alaska Health Care Commission will recommend changes that affect the well-being of Alaskans far into the future."

As Sarah suggests, our individual health is largely (not completely, of course) self-determined If people behave irresponsibly (in eating, exercise, and other areas) there is no way to hold the line on costs, and people end up being sicker -- and dying earlier -- than necessary. The most critical "reform" in health is a change of heart on the part of Americans -- a willingness to choose good health over the bad kind.

There may be ways to drive down costs -- especially through the use of technology and "virtual clinics" for exams -- that will not compromise the quality of care. Mail order prescriptions save my wife and I about $1,000 per year, and if that gets multiplied by hundreds of million people, it's a painless way to cut overall health care costs. (Admittedly, mail order is not for everyone.)

Most of our society's supposed problems have relatively simple solutions. The reason they don't get solved by someone like Obama is that he's mainly interested in paying off his political supporters/voters, most of whom have little interest in efficiency or cost-containment. Thus, the problems never get solved, except rhetorically.

On just about every issue, I admittedly emphasize cost-cutting. In higher education, for example, there's no reason -- in the age of the Internet -- for college costs to continue rising at twice the rate of inflation. Frankly, college costs should not be five times as much, adjusted for inflation, as they were when I attended the University of Rochester a generation ago.

Where there's no real incentive for cost-cutting, there will be none, a reality that's lost on Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi.

I realize that there can't be such thing as a "virtual emergency room" or a "virtual obstetric procedure," but virtual "routine office visits," with perhaps a paramedic in attendance with the patient, should be possible. In fact, Wal-Mart is already doing this.

My wife had a bad stroke in 1991, and she's been on Medicare since 1994, now going into her 15th year. In that time, her Medicare premiums have more covered the expenses in all but two years (one of which she had a gall bladder operation). In short, the government (the taxpayers) is a net winner with her.

She eats well; she exercises regularly (more regularly, alas, than her husband0. She's an extremely prudent consumer of health care services. She realizes nothing is free. She has absolutely no desire to waste American resources.

Is Barack Obama going to encourage people to behave the way my wife does? Very unlikely. I fear Obama is going to overwhelm the health system, discourage young people from preparing for medical careers, and ultimately lead the nation to rationing.

Sadly, you're not going to hear this debate on CNN or MSNBC. They will continue to focus on Michelle's dress, the family's "labradoodle," and Caroline Kennedy's nanny problems.

Why Secular Progressives Hate Sarah

On my other blog, http://stevemaloneygop.blogspot.com/, today I reveal the startling (well, sorta) news that "Barack Obama is NOT 'Black'" I hope you'll visit.

Sarah, Todd, and Trig, the chubby child she now calls her "little Michelin man."

A friend, a professor at a Christian seminary, and I have been exchanging e-mails on why secular progressive hate -- not too strong a word -- Sarah Palin. Basically, they hate her because she's a much better human being than they.

My own background is Roman Catholic, and I grew up in a very positive, loving religious setting that still touches me deeply whenever I think about it. I've had a very diverse group of friends, including pentecostal Catholics, a movement that started in the Pittsburgh area and is "big" here. My wife put a crucifix up on my "study" (in the basement) wall lest I do any backsliding, I guess.

There's a gentleman -- guy in his 20s -- who does documentaries about Hollywood and politics (mostly liberals, but some conservatives). He was asked why Hollywood types, especially the celebrities, were so liberal. Thinking hard on the spot, he said, "Well, they're basically child-like, and the notion that they can't do absolutely anything they want irritates them. They see conservatism as saying some things shouldn't be done, and they can't tolerate that." I'd add that they don't believe much of anything, so religious belief mystifies them.

Sarah Palin, like many of the people around my seminary friend, is deeply Christian. She clearly knows that God wants her to be an exemplar of her faith. When she had Trig, her Down Syndrome child, I barely said anything about it, because it's who she is. She almost never disappoints. A person like that is frightening to the secular progressives. She reminds them what they are not -- they're not people with strong principles, although they often have strong "opinions."

The hatred, and it was that, directed at her did surprise me. Of course, she is so tough, so grounded, that it barely put in a dent in her.

Camille Paglia Salutes Sarah, Todd Palin

One chapter in the book I'm writing (with help from other very talented people) about Sarah Palin will deal with feminists who strongly support the Governor and see her a role model for American women. They include Elaine Lafferty, the former Ms. Magazine editor who called Sarah a "feminist' and a "brainiac"; Shelley Mandell, the president of the Los Angeles chapter of NOW, who endorsed Sarah in a Carson, CA event (to the dismay of the tree-dwelling segment of NOW) by saying, "This [Sarah] is what a feminist looks like"; and the remarkable Camille Paglia, who voted for Obama, but has paradoxically been Sarah's strongest defender. Paglia wrote the following about Gov. Palin, which I hope you'll disseminate widely.

In an article written on October 8, 2008, Paglia said:

"The mountain of rubbish poured out about Palin over the past month would rival Everest. What a disgrace for our jabbering army of liberal journalists and commentators, too many of whom behaved like snippy jackasses…One of the most idiotic allegations batting around out there among urban media insiders is that Palin is "dumb." Are they kidding? What level of stupidity is now par for the course in those musty circles? People who can't see how smart Palin is are trapped in their own narrow parochialism-the tedious, hackneyed forms of their upper-middle-class syntax and vocabulary…I admire her competitive spirit and her exuberant vitality, which borders on the supernormal…both Todd and Sarah Palin…have emerged as powerful new symbols of a revived contemporary feminism. That the macho Todd, with his champion athleticism and working-class creed, can so amiably cradle babies and care for children is a huge step forward in American sexual symbolism."

Palin for President Movement Begins

Note: This is the launch of the effort to get Gov. Sarah Palin -- in 2012 -- a new home, the White House in Washington, DC. The following message is from Janet of the Read My Lipstick Network (RMLN), which I urge you to join.

Only a few short days to go before VICTORY! Every single vote matters and could be the one that puts us over the top. Make some phone calls! Find a rally! Send emails and blog, blog, blog.

On November 5th things in this country are going to change, and we need to be prepared to change, too. The focus of the Read My Lipstick Network has been to support Sarah Palin and to get our dynamic duo elected on Nov. 4th. We've also been working to promote conservative values, regardless of party affiliation.

Our voice is going to be all the more important the day after the election. Either we'll be supporting John McCain and Sarah Palin and will be working to get news out that the media won't cover, OR (hopefully not), we'll be working to preserve conservative values in our great country as the other guys undermine everything that has made our country free and prosperous.

Either way, it's going to be tough and your blogs and your voices will be critical in the coming years. I'm attaching two new logos we'll be using after the election rather than just the lips or the logos we've been using. If you have the blogroll on your site, you won't need to do anything, it will self update (as soon as we can get into it!). The larger logo is perfect for the sidebar of most blogs, the other is a smaller version you may want to include elsewhere.

Another potential issue some of us are discussing is that Google and Blogger are owned by a big supporter of Obama. It's a possibility that at some point we're going to have difficulty using their free system. Just something to think about!

We're also setting up a Ning site similar to http://www.teamsarah.org/, which may or may not take off, we'll see (it's free ;-). We're also connecting with some other great groups that are already gearing up to move forward after the election (how about this - some are planning to work toward electing Sarah Palin as President in 2012!).

I think that connecting with them will be a positive move for RMLN, don't you? After the election we ALL need to band together and keep on fighting the good fight. Maybe all the groups need to come up with one big umbrella name to ensure we're walking together and working clearly toward our common goals! Kind of like the fish symbol tells everyone that you're a Christian, maybe we need a similar symbol that connects the purpose and share the commonality of goals. Another thought for another day .

Right now, let's get John McCain and Sarah Palin elected and send Barack Obama back to the Senate. Obama has already said if he doesn't win on Tuesday he'll be back for the next election. We'll definitely need to be out there shoring up support for conservative values, 'cause they are going to attack, attack, twist and attack when he doesn't win.
