Sarah Palin: Love and Politics
Recently, I wrote the following to a friend (also named "Steve") who's an ardent conservative with a focus on social issues, especially abortion and gay marriage. For Sarah Palin to win the election in 2012, she must reach out -- in a spirit of love and respect -- to people who don't share all of her views.
Steve, at least Jeb Bush's remarks (about the GOP's need to get beyond Reagan) fired up people who truly care about the Republican Party and our beloved country. The basic Republican values should be, to cite Sarah Palin, "liberty, tolerance, and opportunity." I'm sure she would also add protecting our nation's security. We offer those things, and the liberal Democrats do not (although they occasionally claim they do).
One thing we must do -- and Pennsylvania senatorial candidate Pat Toomey must do the same, as I think he will -- is to emphasize that good people are going to disagree on one or more issues. But anyone who supports the principles Gov. Palin outlined is welcome as an ally.
I hope we can turn the "wedge issues" into something more than that. Mainly as a cost-cutting effort, Obama and his allies are creating a culture that "saves money" by increasing the number of abortions . . . and also shortens the lives of the elderly infirm. Obama recently said as much in an interview with the NY Times. [Note: On my other blog, I'll be writing for next week about Obama's disastrous health care proposals.]
I believe these realities will get the attention of people who may dissent with us to a degree on certain social issues. Most people, even those claiming to be pro-choice, are not enthusiastic about increasing abortions, particularly in the second- and third-trimesters. And very few Americans really want to snuff out grandma's and grandpa's lives prematurely . . . in order to save a few bucks.
We need to focus much of our energy on issues where we have a real chance of influencing the political process. We also need to salute our role models, even those who are not "perfect" in their life history. "For all have sinned, all have fallen short of the glory of God."
Personally, I'd say two of those people are Bristol Palin, now relying on her life experience to support teen-age abstinence, and Carrie Prejean, who will probably lose her Miss California crown, but could gain something much more important: her immortal soul and her relationship with God. In the case of Bristol Palin, yes, she made a mistake (and haven't we all?). But unlike so many girls who get pregnant she didn't compound it with a much worse mistake.
I hope we all try to move our world in a direction where people don't hunker down in ideological camps but instead are able to discuss important issues fairly and honestly. Loving our neighbors is not synonymous with always agreeing with them.

Michelle Obama: How Many Abortions?
After all, if Sarah Palin and her family are fair game for any conceivable questions, then the same should be true of the Obama family. If Bristol Palin's sex life and contraception practices are fit subjects for the media, then why should the Obamas --including their children -- be excluded from similar enquiries? What's fair for the goose should also be fair for the gander.
Consider Sarah Palin's recent comments on what things annoy her.
"Bored, anonymous, pathetic bloggers who lie annoy me....I'll tell you, yesterday the Anchorage Daily News, they called again to ask — double-, triple-, quadruple-check — who is Trig's real mom. And I said, Come on, are you kidding me? We're gonna answer this? Do you not believe me or my doctor? And they said, No, it's been quite cryptic the way that my son's birth has been discussed. And I thought, Okay, more indication of continued problems in the world of journalism."
Do I really believe the MSM will ask Michelle Obama -- and at a later date, her daughters, Sasha and Malia -- questions about their sex lives and contraception practices? No, it will never happen. The Obama children -- and Michelle herself -- are "off limits." Thus, it's okay to ask them nonsensical questions concerning the "First Dog" but not about much else. (If questions about the pooch are the only ones deemed appropriate, then we might enquire what happened to the "rescue dog" Obama previously mentioned.
Michelle Obama, "America's First Lady," has spent much of her life -- going back to her days at Princeton -- advocating Black Separatism. Like her husband, she spent 20 years attending a church, one headed by Rev. Wright, preaching Black Liberation Theology. Among other charges, Wright said that the U. S. government "invented" the AIDS virus in order to kill Black people.
Why isn't the media asking if Michelle Obama agrees with Rev. Wright? Of even more interest, does Barack Obama agree with his former pastor? And do Sasha and Malia have any views on the subject?
The American people know very little about Barack and Michelle Obama. The media should rectify that, but it probably won't.

Questions Levi Johnston Must Answer
Note: On my other blog (http://stevemaloneygop.blogspot.com) I've written several columns on Vice President Joe Biden's history of lies. Biden's lies, especially his defamation of a Delaware family should have disqualified him from any high office, but the MSM, as usual, has given him a free pass.)
"He who pays the piper chooses the tune." Levi is the piper, and when we find out exactly who's paying him, we find out who's the source of Levi's public statements.
Is Levi Johnston really being paid? Well, Levi has no job and, given his lack of education and skills, he doesn't exactly have many occupational prospects. On the other hand, he magically has enough money to fly (along with his mother and sister) from Anchorage to New York City and back. Presumably, the Johnstons didn't stay at the Motel 6 and dine at Wendys. And then there's Levi's new pickup, which cost a bundle. Levi, enquiring minds want to know where the money came from.
The questions I've raised above should be ones asked by the media, both in Alaska and in "the lower-48." Unfortunately, the media -- ranging from the Anchorage Daily News to the New York Timesand the national networks, aren't very good at asking questions of those who are criticizing Sarah Palin or her children. So, it falls to those of us in the humble blogosphere to do the media's job. And do it we will. Levi's reputation as "America's Sleazebag" is destined go grow.
Previous column is below
Levi Johnston was Paid Off
Hint: Levi Johnston and his family are being paid off for trashing Sarah and Bristol Palin. The motto of the reporters (Woodward and Bernstein) in Watergate was to "follow the money." The modern MSM doesn't follow payoffs as long as there's a whiff of salaciousness to focus on. [Note: On my other blog, http://stevemaloneygop.blogspot.com I have Thurs. and Fri. columns on Joe Biden's pathological lying over the years, especially his mythical story about the details of the death of his first wife and infant daughter in a 1972 traffic accident.]
This column marks the beginning of effort to raise the intriguing question of where Levi Johnston and his family -- with his mother under indictment for drug sales -- are getting tens of thousands of dollars to pay for various expenses, including flights (for Levi, his mother, and his sister) to NY (at a cost of approximately $7,500) for the Tyra Banks show, as well as for the shiny new pick-up truck that the unemployed Levi (who apparently can't pay child care expenses) is driving. (Hey, at least Levi doesn't sell out his former "beloved" and his current son for mere peanuts.)
Obviously, the money comes from Obama supporters like George Soros and the investment bankers Obama is bailing out with billions of dollars, payoffs in their own right. I can't dot all the i's on l'affaire Levi yet, but if something stinks like a skunk, well, it's not the first rose of summer. And Levi and his odious mother are smelling very skunk-like these days.
Since the Tyra Bankses of the world can't ask Levi any hard questions, well, we have to do the job for them.
Perhaps someone will be very daring and ask Mrs. Johnston who's paying her whopping legal expenses these days. Hint: It's not the Palin-for-President Committee. I don't believe Mrs. Johnston has much money lying around from her former profession of selling oxycontin.
Am I claiming that Obama, Axelrod, and Emanuel ("The Triangle of Evil") are making direct payments to the Johnstons? Silly question: that's why people like Obama and Axelrod have bagmen. As Richard Nixon put it, in politics, "deniability" is everything.
Consider Bristol Palin's comment that some people (hint: she meant Levi and his delightful family) were using the "Palin name" in order to make "money." Bristol is getting wiser by the moment.
If you'd like to read more about the Johnston family, I urge you to check out Ron Devito's blog at: http://sarahs-accomplishments.blogspot.com/2009/04/salacious-news-coverage-levi-johnston.html. Ron is a young guy, but he has the ability, as a friend of mine once put it, "to find out where the bones are buried."There will be more to come this weekend. I urge you to pass this material on to friends and allies.

Defending Sarah, Bristol Palin
As governor, Sarah makes controversial decisions because she doesn't "go along to get along." She's been a rock of integrity and courage throughout her life. Barack Obama, who has never gone against his Party -- never, ever -- can make no such claim. He's the same man who enthusiastically endorsed Blagojevich for governor -- twice.
Sarah Palin has the same kind of family issues that confront most Americans, including this one (with five daughters, all of whom have a mind of their own). There's an old -- accurate -- statement that parents don't "own" their children. They're on loan. There's another saying (that I made up) which says that our children ARE NOT US. They're themselves, unique human beings who have a right to make their own mistakes, which they will do, trust me.
Levi Johnston, meet Barack Obama. Both of them are self-absorbed sleazebags. Obama sold out to every special interest group with a bag-full of cash. Levi sold out his ex-girlfriend and his son, Tripp, for however many pieces of silver Tyra Banks was offering.
I believe Sarah will defend Bristol -- "like a mama grizzly." Let's do the same for a remarkable American woman, Bristol's mom. Part of the Palins' appeal is that they're "Every Family in America," and let's take advantage of that. (For certain, they're never boring.)
Sarah Palin blasts Levi Johnston for talking about relationship
with her daughter Bristol (From "Entertainment Weekly")
Levi Johnston -- Bristol Palin's former boyfriend and the father of her baby -- has made her lipstick-wearing pit bull mother biting mad. Johnston tells Tyra Banks on her show (that airs on April 6) that he believes Gov. Sarah Palin knew darn well he and her daughter were having sex when they lived in her house. "I'm pretty sure she probably knew. Moms are pretty smart," Johnston says. News of his sex chat with Tyra has hit the ears of the Alaska governor.
And you betcha her camp has released an angry hornet’s nest of a statement."Bristol did not even know Levi was going on the show. We're disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration and even distortion of their relationship," says the statement from the Palin family rep.
"It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the well-being of the child."
The statement ends: "Bristol realizes now that she made a mistake in her relationship and is the one taking responsibility for their actions."

Angie Harmon Defends Palins' Daughter
Angie Harmon: A beautiful woman -- and an even more beautiful human being[Note: On my other blog I've written perhaps my most important column ever. I hope you'll read it -- and give your comments if you wish. It's called: What Caused the Economic Collapse?
Here's an excerpt: People like Barack Obama, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, and Maxine Waters weren't the primary causes of the financial collapse, but by their inaction and greed they certainly played major roles. They provided little or no oversight on firms who were basically bankrolling their political careers. What role did Sarah Palin play in the financial collapse? Unlike Obama, she played NO role.]
Following is the article about Angie Harmon:

Angie Harmon Defends Bristol Palin's Pregnancy, Says Republicans Are Much More Understanding
On Monday, Pop Tarts reported *Angie Harmon’s frustration at being considered "racist" simply because she doesn’t agree with what President Obama is doing and her admiration for Gov. Sarah Palin (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,511470,00.html)
In part two of our exclusive interview the actress/model defended *Bristol Palin* for having a child out of wedlock at such a tender age."I think one of the greatest things about the Republican Party is the understanding, we don’t point fingers and we have class. Lets keep in mind here, how old is she, 17? I don’t care what anybody says, this person is still a young person and okay she's got a big situation on her hands but for anyone to sit there and make fun of her or judge her is just cruel and wrong," Harmon said.
"She is in a position that any girl could be in: is this guy marrying me because he loves me and wants to be with me? To be in my life and our child's life? This is a big deal; we're getting married at 17! Nowadays, those don’t last. So if everyone could just get off her and let her live her life and do it in a way that she thinks is best, I'm all for it. I really am. She has my support 100 percent, she's a sweetheart. I've got three daughters and I'm going to stand up for them and support them in whatever they want to do."
Harmon also admitted that she’s probably (unknowingly) lost jobs over her political views, and is pretty disillusioned over why so many Americans are not open to freedom of opinion."It's not like anyone has come up to my face and been like ‘I'm not hiring you because you're a Republican!’ But the media is so liberal and I get it, but I’m just confused on where we lost the respect for our fellow Americans. Not all of us are supposed to believe the same things and think the same way," she added.
"I think the difference between the parties is, with the Democrats you can sit down with them and have a 15 minute conversation and if you’re not believing everything they say and buying into what they’re selling you, it is like you’re some dumb hick who doesn't deserve to live here anymore. But with the Republicans, it is like okay I want to know what you know, you want to know what I know, okay great lets go have a beer after work, we're still friends. I’m just confused as to where we lost that in America because it is everyone’s God-given right to think the way they think and that's fine. That's why our ancestors came here to America, to believe what they want, pray how they want and follow a religion with whoever they want."
And in the Democratic-driven heat of Hollywood, Ms. Harmon has definitely taken a risk in voicing her views."Look we haven’t been shot yet! We're still alive! We've said the word "Republican" like four times and we're still alive! Can you believe it?" Harmon joked.
Steve add: Support from well-known people like Angie Harmon is critical in the effort to get Sarah Palin -- and other good people -- elected to high office. It's a great sign that people like Harmon, Dennis Miller, Elizabeth Hasselbach, and others are courageous enough to speak out for American values.

AP Disinformation on Sarah Palin
Team Sarah member John Hopkins (a budding journalist) posted a blog lately re: an AP article in which correspondent Michael Gormley exonerates his organization from spreading lies about Palin, based on only ONE claim, that the media tried to say that Trig was really Bristol's son.
Gormley claims that this was "only" the domain of bloggers, and clean, uncorrupted AP had nothing to do with that. But the "blogger" (Markos Markos) who spread the story, on The Daily Kos, was a Newsweek columnist, and both CNN and MSNBC picked up that ball and ran with it. (Of the two, only MSNBC has issued a formal apology.)
Still, Gormley's article is relentlessly mocking of Palin: "She messed up her first interviews, didn't show much of a grasp of the issues and, dontcha know, had a speech pattern that was widely mimicked. Sarah Palin? You betcha. But Caroline Kennedy also fits the bill."
How can he even compare the two?? Caroline Kennedy is, in actuality, a fine writer who has done two books on the Constitution. But she's never run a city, let alone a state, so how can one say she and Sarah are "both" political incompetents? Here's the link:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090109/ap_on_re_us/palin
Gormley, like so many journalists, dwells in a world where their primary goal isn't to provide verifiable information. Rather, they're driven mainly by a desire to curry favor with their peers, i.e., other self-styled "journalists." They're blissfully unaware of any America that exists outside America's biggest metropolitan areas.
And how did Palin "mess up her first interviews"? Oh yes, I remember, She didn't know what Charles Gibson meant by "The Bush Doctrine," a term that media journalists made up and which has covered over time no less that FOUR so-called "Bush Doctrines." One possible definition of said "Doctrine" is to "kill them [terrorists] before they kill us," a view Gov. Palin certainly shares. Another Bush principle is to encourage the spread of democracy in the Middle East and Central Asia, which Palin surely supports -- and many of the "good folks" at AP and CNN probably don't.
Note: Don Imus correctly characterized Charles Gibson as "a pretentious fool," and he labeled Katie Couric as "a little rodent." Gibson and Couric inhabit a liberal universe where they get paid millions of dollar for reading news reports mainly written by others.
But here's the shocker. Google "AP stories about Sarah Palin, 9/1/08 - 11/4/08," and you pull up - FOUR STORIES - all of them relatively balanced. Gone are any stories about the vicious attacks, about Bristol, about the bogus "Troopergate," about Sarah (who's worn spectacles since age 10) supposedly wearing glasses to look more intellectual, about the wardrobe purchases, about her calling Africa a country, etc. etc. etc.
Gone, gone, gone. They never existed, don'tcha know?? WE never said them! WE'RE fair and honest journalists!! Yeah, sure, right.

Endless Smears Against Palin Family
Who says there's no Easter Bunny? Not the man in the diaper, Senator Al FrankenThe Anchorage Daily News (ADN) is a source of many rumors and smears. Frankly, the ADN is small potatoes, backwater journalism. It's "reader comment" section is dominated by Sarah-haters who revel in baseless charges.
The entire "Troopergate" controversy was bogus. Unfortunately, pro-Sarah bloggers had to spend tens of thousands of hours refuting charges that were baseless. The trooper was a rogue who drank on the job, tasered his own young son, and treated Sarah Palin's sister very badly. By age 35, this "congenial" soul had acquired four wives. He's not exactly what women call a "keeper."
He should have been fired -- although he hasn't yet.
As for Monoghan, the safety commissioner, Sarah had every right to fire him. She regarded him as disloyal to her administration. Yes, he worked for the people of Alaska, but he worked for them through the Governor. If he didn't have the confidence of the Gov. of Alaska, then it was her obligation to get rid of him.
I realize these aren't the usual analyses of the situations (the trooper and the Safety Commissioner), but they're about all I care to do. Sarah likes to get rid of disloyal subordinates (and so do I, by the way). She did the same when she first became Mayor of Wasilla.
My friend and YouTube expert, Rebekah Chauhan in CA, has suggested we ascribe criticisms of Sarah to sexism, which Rebekah says is equivalent to racism. Yeah, in a way this is name-calling, but if the name fits, use it. It's a simple approach.
Very early in the game -- during the Republican Convention -- I was on a TV show in Pittsburgh, debating with two female Obama Supporters. The question came up whether, as Politico had suggested, Sarah was "shrill and inexperienced."
My comment was: "Apparently, shrill means she has a woman's voice. Inexperienced means she's a woman . . . and has a woman's (wife's, mother's, working woman's) experience." Simple, but it worked well.
I've had long experience in public relations for some of the country's most controversial industries (oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, health insurance), and I really believe "less is more" when it comes to dealing with (baseless) charges. Point-by-point refutations tend to get us in a situation like Brer Rabbit and the tar baby. It's debilitating.
My response to the "current" controversy regarding Levi Johnston is this. Yeah, teenage parents and 18-year-olds in general make mistakes. As the world knows by now, two of my daughters (nearly two decades ago) had children (one each) before they married the children's fathers. In one case, the father was involved in activities which I didn't, to say the least, approve of.
However, I don't recall being asked for a lot of advice by my "children," who were both young adults when the events occurred. They insisted on their right to make their own mistakes, which they did in abundance.
I'm sure that, like many teen parents, Bristol and Levi will flounder around. Decent people will wish both of them well -- period. Even if I knew Bristol and Levi much better than I do, I'd hesitate to make any judgments about them as people. Ask me again when they're, say, 35.
In the campaign, The oxymoronically named "Obama Truth Squad" worked effectively, mainly because the media allowed it to do so. The MSM is not going to give us in Sarah's camp that luxury. That's why we need to replace the media, which is doing a good job collapsing of its own dead weight, with a new media, i.e., us.
Overall, we shouldn't over-react to what will be an endless stream of petty charges against Sarah and her family. We need to recognize it for what it is: an attempt to smear a woman and her family for being "normal" and for having the same problems and challenges as tens of millions of other Americans.
During the convention -- before "the speech" -- one of my frequent correspondents (Eric) said that a McCain staffer told him there were some "devastating" (and apparently credible) allegations against Sarah, etc., etc. (At the time Markos Markos of The Daily Kos was spewing out one lie per hour about Sarah Palin.)
I told Eric this: You know Sarah well (he'd campaigned in Alaska for her) and I know all about Sarah. And because you know so much about her, you realize that any such allegations are completely false." (I believe they had something to do with Bristol's pregnancy.)
I took a leap of faith in what I said -- faith in the character, values, and essential goodness of Sarah Heath Palin. In the end, I was right, and Eric, along with his "source" were wrong.
The Obama Campaign (one that apparently continues unto eternity) -- basically controlled by people who hate "normal Americans" -- would love for us to spend the next four years (eight years?) refuting absurd charges against Sarah.
They don't want us to spend our precious time organizing and emphasizing the kind of positive change Sarah represents. Obama and his media minions want to destroy Sarah Palin. They will find out eventually that she is indestructible. Carry on, Sarah.
