In a Wall Street Journal OP ED on September 8, Gov. Sarah Palin explained in simple, but compelling, words exactly what's wrong with Barack Obama's socialistic health care plan. The Palin article follows:

Writing in the New York Times last month, President Barack Obama asked that Americans "talk with one another, and not over one another" as our health-care debate moves forward.

I couldn't agree more. Let's engage the other side's arguments, and let's allow Americans to decide for themselves whether the Democrats' health-care proposals should become governing law.

Some 45 years ago Ronald Reagan said that "no one in this country should be denied medical care because of a lack of funds." Each of us knows that we have an obligation to care for the old, the young and the sick. We stand strongest when we stand with the weakest among us.

We also know that our current health-care system too often burdens individuals and businesses—particularly small businesses—with crippling expenses. And we know that allowing government health-care spending to continue at current rates will only add to our ever-expanding deficit.

How can we ensure that those who need medical care receive it while also reducing health-care costs? The answers offered by Democrats in Washington all rest on one principle: that increased government involvement can solve the problem. I fundamentally disagree.

Common sense tells us that the government's attempts to solve large problems more often create new ones. Common sense also tells us that a top-down, one-size-fits-all plan will not improve the workings of a nationwide health-care system that accounts for one-sixth of our economy. And common sense tells us to be skeptical when President Obama promises that the Democrats' proposals "will provide more stability and security to every American."

With all due respect, Americans are used to this kind of sweeping promise from Washington. And we know from long experience that it's a promise Washington can't keep.

Let's talk about specifics. In his Times op-ed, the president argues that the Democrats' proposals "will finally bring skyrocketing health-care costs under control" by "cutting . . . waste and inefficiency in federal health programs like Medicare and Medicaid and in unwarranted subsidies to insurance companies . . . ."

First, ask yourself whether the government that brought us such "waste and inefficiency" and "unwarranted subsidies" in the first place can be believed when it says that this time it will get things right. The nonpartistan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) doesn't think so: Its director, Douglas Elmendorf, told the Senate Budget Committee in July that "in the legislation that has been reported we do not see the sort of fundamental changes that would be necessary to reduce the trajectory of federal health spending by a significant amount."

Now look at one way Mr. Obama wants to eliminate inefficiency and waste: He's asked Congress to create an Independent Medicare Advisory Council—an unelected, largely unaccountable group of experts charged with containing Medicare costs. In an interview with the New York Times in April, the president suggested that such a group, working outside of "normal political channels," should guide decisions regarding that "huge driver of cost . . . the chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives . . . ."

Given such statements, is it any wonder that many of the sick and elderly are concerned that the Democrats' proposals will ultimately lead to rationing of their health care by—dare I say it—death panels? Establishment voices dismissed that phrase, but it rang true for many Americans.

Working through "normal political channels," they made themselves heard, and as a result Congress will likely reject a wrong-headed proposal to authorize end-of-life counseling in this cost-cutting context. But the fact remains that the Democrats' proposals would still empower unelected bureaucrats to make decisions affecting life or death health-care matters. Such government overreaching is what we've come to expect from this administration.

Speaking of government overreaching, how will the Democrats' proposals affect the deficit? The CBO estimates that the current House proposal not only won't reduce the deficit but will actually increase it by $239 billion over 10 years. Only in Washington could a plan that adds hundreds of billions to the deficit be hailed as a cost-cutting measure.

The economic effects won't be limited to abstract deficit numbers; they'll reach the wallets of everyday Americans. Should the Democrats' proposals expand health-care coverage while failing to curb health-care inflation rates, smaller paychecks will result. A new study for Watson Wyatt Worldwide by Steven Nyce and Syl Schieber concludes that if the government expands health-care coverage while health-care inflation continues to rise "the higher costs would drive disposable wages downward across most of the earnings spectrum, although the declines would be steepest for lower-earning workers." Lower wages are the last thing Americans need in these difficult economic times.

Finally, President Obama argues in his op-ed that Democrats' proposals "will provide every American with some basic consumer protections that will finally hold insurance companies accountable." Of course consumer protection sounds like a good idea. And it's true that insurance companies can be unaccountable and unresponsive institutions—much like the federal government. That similarity makes this shift in focus seem like nothing more than an attempt to deflect attention away from the details of the Democrats' proposals—proposals that will increase our deficit, decrease our paychecks, and increase the power of unaccountable government technocrats.

Instead of poll-driven "solutions," let's talk about real health-care reform: market-oriented, patient-centered, and result-driven. As the Cato Institute's Michael Cannon and others have argued, such policies include giving all individuals the same tax benefits received by those who get coverage through their employers; providing Medicare recipients with vouchers that allow them to purchase their own coverage; reforming tort laws to potentially save billions each year in wasteful spending; and changing costly state regulations to allow people to buy insurance across state lines. Rather than another top-down government plan, let's give Americans control over their own health care.

Democrats have never seriously considered such ideas, instead rushing through their own controversial proposals. After all, they don't need Republicans to sign on: Democrats control the House, the Senate and the presidency. But if passed, the Democrats' proposals will significantly alter a large sector of our economy. They will not improve our health care. They will not save us money. And, despite what the president says, they will not "provide more stability and security to every American."

We often hear such overblown promises from Washington. With first principles in mind and with the facts in hand, tell them that this time we're not buying it.

Award Nominations

Doug Brady wrote a great post earlier proposing August 29, the anniversary of Gov. Palin's nomination as the Republican vice presidential candidate, as "Sarah Palin Day". This is a fine idea. He also nominated yours truly for some kind of award (thanks!). However, I would be remiss not to throw in a few nominations myself. I get a lot of credit for launching the original Draft Palin site, but there are definitely two or three people who did at least as much work as I did and hence deserve awards. So, I would place the following nominations for the Sarah Palin Day Award:

1. Steve Maloney - Steve was the second-ever Palin blogger, and my lonely partner in crime for most of 2007. To be honest, Steve drove some of our earliest endorsements and did a lot of heavy lifting during a time when I couldn't (retirees have more time to blog than intern/college students). No Steve, no Palin Movement - period. By the way - Steve is still involved with a large network of Palin bloggers, C4P is big, but Steve and his gang do a lot to keep together all of the little bloggers for Sarah. If you don't know him, you should.

2. Kristopher Lorelli - Started his own Palin site in early 2008, PalinForVp.com (prompting me to buy up PalinForVP.net, PalinForVP.org, and PalinForVP.info). Despite the odd name similarity, Kris was a great partner, and did even more work behind the scenes than he did with his site. From what I heard, quite a large amount of pro-Palin literature and email was sent to McCain campaign officials by Kris. He's now one of the major brains at the other team blog I contribute to - Race42012.

Commenter of the Year Award - "The Original Ted"For any hard-core, long-time Palinite who was involved in the movement before Sarah's nomination, Ted needs no introduction. If you got involved later - I'm sure many old-schoolers in the comments section will be happy to tell you about his efforts. I will leave the Ted stories to the commenters - as it seems only right that our commenter award nominee should be lauded primarily by his compatriots below the fold.

I am disabled with MS. But, I do a lot of Internet communication. I’m also working on a writing project. I got this Special Message below from HuckPAC. Properly enough as a minister, your father retains and expresses a relatively positive Outlook. I hope in some respect, I’m able to project a bit of such a positive disposition. However, it strikes me as a bit sanguine to talk about getting “this country back on track.” Even assuming that we might thwart or more likely slow, the intrusion of the federal government into the private domain of medical care, the fiscal folly already accomplished alone is not a mere ditch but a multi-generational canyon from which it is hard to imagine how we could emerge in any sort of typically American state of health in liberty and commerce. The record of Republicans in undoing liberal folly is not a sterling one and appears particularly unpromising in the case of the enormity of this profligacy.

I watch your father’s television program weekly. I would sure love to hear it if he has reason beyond a mere encouragement for America to persevere, putting one step in front of the other irrespective of circumstance. I’m near his age and would share much of the romance of America as having experienced God’s blessing. First-hand Witness to Staged Obama Town Hall Meeting in Belgrade, Montana

By now you have probably heard that President Obama came to Montana last Friday. However, there are many things that the major news has not covered. I feel that since Joe and I live here and we were at the airport on Friday I should share some facts with you. Whatever you decide to do with the information is up to you. If you chose to share this email with others I do ask that you DELETE my email address before you forward this on.On Wednesday, August 5th it was announced locally that the President would be coming here.

There are many groups here that are against his healthcare and huge spending so those groups began talking and deciding on what they were going to do. The White House would not release ANY details other than the date.On about Tuesday Joe found out that they would be holding the "Town Hall" at the airport. (This is only because Joe knows EVERYONE at the airport)

Our airport is actually located outside of Belgrade (tiny town) in a very remote location. Nothing is around there. They chose to use a hangar that is the most remotely located hangar. You could not pick a more remote location, and you can not get to it easily. It is totally secluded from the public.

FYI: We have many areas in Belgrade and Bozeman which could have held a large amount of folks with sufficient parking. (gymnasiums/auditoriums). All of which have chairs and tables, and would not have to be SHIPPED IN!! $$$$$During the week, cargo by the TONS was being shipped in constantly. Airport employees could not believe how it just kept coming. Though it was our President coming several expressed how excessive it was, especially during a recession. $$$$$

Late Tuesday/early Wednesday the 12th, they said that tickets would be handed out on Thursday 9am at two locations and the president would be arriving around 12:30 Friday.Thursday morning about 600 tickets were passed out. However, 1500 were printed at a Local printing shop per White House request. Hmmmm.......900 tickets just DISAPPEARED.

This same morning someone called into the radio from the local UPS branch and said that THOUSANDS of Dollars of Lobster were shipped in for Obama. Montana has some of the best beef in the nation!!! And it would have been really wonderful to help out the local economy. Anyone heard of the Recession?? Just think...with all of the traveling the White House is doing. $$$$$ One can only imagine what else we are paying for.

On Friday Joe and I got out to the airport about 10:45am. The groups that wanted to protest Obama's spending and healthcare had gotten a permit to protest and that area was roped off. But that was not to be. A large bus carrying SEIU (Service Employees International Union) members drove up onto the area (illegal) and unloaded right there. It was quite a commotion and there were specifically 2 SEIU men trying to make trouble and start a fight. Police did get involved and arrested the one man but they said they did not have the manpower to remove the SEIU crowd.

The SEIU crowd was very organized and young. About 99% were under the age of 30 and they were not locals! They had bullhorns and PROFESSIONALLY made signs. Some even wore preprinted T-shirts. Oh, and Planned Parenthood folks were with them.....professing abortion rights with their T-shirts and preprinted signs. (BTW, all these folks did have a permit to protest in ANOTHER area)

Those against healthcare/spending moved away from the SEIU crowd to avoid confrontation. They were orderly and respectful. Even though SEIU kept coming over and walking through, continuing to be very intimidating and aggressive at the direction of the one SEIU man.

So we had Montana folks from ALL OVER the state with their homemade signs and their DOGS with homemade signs. We had cowboys, nurses, doctors you name it. There was even a guy from Texas who had been driving through. He found out about the occasion, went to the store, made a sign, and came to protest.

If you are wondering about the press.....Well, all of the major networks were over by that remote hangar I mentioned. They were conveniently parked on the other side of the buildings FAR away. None of these crowds were even visible to them. I have my doubts that they knew anything about the crowds.We did have some local news media around us from this state and Idaho .

Speaking of the local media...they were invited. However, all questions were to be turned into the White House in advance of the event. Wouldn't want anyone to have to think off the top of their head.

It was very obvious that it was meant to be totally controlled by the White House. Everything was orchestrated down to the last detail to make it appear that Montana is just crazy for Obama and government healthcare. Even those people that talked about their insurance woes........the White House called our local HRDC (Human Resource and Development Committee) and asked for names. Then the White House asked those folks to come. Smoke and mirrors....EVERYTHING was staged!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very dismayed about what I learned about our current White House. The amount of control and manipulation was unbelievable. I felt I was not living in the United States of America , more like the USSR !! I was physically nauseous.

Joe and I have been around when Presidents or Heads of State visit. It has NEVER been like this. I am truly very frightened for our country. America needs your prayers and your voices. If you care about our country please get involved. Know the issues. And let Congress hear your voices again and again!! If they are willing to put forth so much effort to BULLY a small town one can only imagine what is going on in Washington DC . Scary!!

The Alaskans who know her love Sarah Palin. What is there not to like?

She's been a superb leader in a state mostly known for partisanship and rampant corruption. She talks the talk, and she walks the walk. I've said that people who don't like Sarah Palin (people like Letterman, Begala, Axelrod, and most Democrats) really don't like America. They don't like the kind of opportunity that's available to someone from modest origins. They don't like the fact she's a model wife and mother, mostly because they don't really believe women should be wives and mothers, apparently. They don't like her espousal of liberty, tolerance, and opportunity, because they believe in an America run by academic ideologues, like Dr. Zeke Emanuel. They don't like the fact that her son is in military, whereas their sons and daughters aren't. They hate the fact that she's an excellent athlete in a family of athletes. She's physically beautify, while they aren't. She makes them feel inferior, which they are.

Again, people who despise Sarah also despise America. It's that simple.

ObamaCare: Elderly Need Not Apply

Please pass it on.Here's what Dick Morris thinks (not much) in boldface below of the removal of the end-of-life-counseling component from the Senate Finance Committee health proposal: Obama and congressional leftists have provided no answers to the questions Morris raises.

President Obama's retreat from his previous insistence on establishing a government owned insurance company to compete with private health insurers will do nothing at all to mitigate the massive rationing in medical care to the elderly his legislation will force. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, in a rare moment of profundity, said that government alternative to private health insurance is "not the essential element" of the administration's health care overhaul. How right she is.

The fundamental equation that means worse and worse medical care for our seniors remains exactly as it was before the public option was abandoned: Fifty million new patients to be treated and no extra doctors or nurses to care for them. The result will be precisely the same whether or not there is a public option -- massive rationing of medical services to the elderly.

The legislation still plans to achieve 40% of its savings from cuts in Medicare, slicing reimbursement rates to doctors and hospitals encouraging them shortchange their elderly patients as a matter of economic necessity and shrinking further the population of doctors. The deletion of the public insurance option is a good step.

It reduces the likelihood of "socialized medicine" dominated by a single payer. But it does nothing to alter the basic equation of supply and demand which will doom medical care for the elderly.

Revisiting Palin's "Death Panel" Concept

The biggest problem with the Dem's health proposals is that they don't really try either to lower costs or to improve quality. Main point: no tort reform, because the Dems are completely in bed with the trial lawyers, who extract hundreds of billions from the health system, money that could be much better spent on the uninsured.

One fascinating development: hospitals in South America and India -- at least their top-tier hospitals -- are as good as MOST (not all) American hospitals. And insurance companies increasingly are flying people to New Delhi or Buenos Aires (and other sites) for operations. It turns out (rough numbers) that a heart bypass that costs $35,000 in the U.S. might cost $8,000 in India. Thus, the return flight tickets, the operation, and a short stay for recuperation can end up saving, say, $15,000 or more in costs.

The Economist had an article several months ago saying the number of Americans going to India or South America was nearly one million per year! They estimated the number could go to 10 million in the next decade or so. Start multiplying savings of $5 thousand or $10 thousand (or more) by ten million people, and the reduction in costs is immense.

If Americans see the numbers, which indicate they're not more likely to die in foreign hospitals, they are more inclined to take the trip. In some case, people are paying out of pocket (no health insurance) and saving money along with their lives appeal to them.

The Dem's health legislation is completely uncreative and basically will bring a meat-axe to medical costs. It will ration according to age and other statistical factors before it makes economic promises it will not be able to keep. Thus, Dr. Thomas Sowell is correct: they will just refuse to pay for expensive treatments. The refusal to pay will not be a "death panel" as such, but it will have the same effects.

In recent weeks, Gov. Sarah Palin has brought something new to the American scene: "Facebook Politics," and she's using it very effectively.

The following is my take on the public relations elements of the "death panel" debate: From a public relations standpoint -- and yeah, I have been in that business since the mid-1970s -- the most important thing you can do is to put your opponents on the defensive. (We sometimes make the mistake of allowing ourselves to be put in a defensive posture.) One goal of Sarah's "death panel" concept is to get people like Obama and Specter (and Paul Begala and other drones) saying, "No, we don't have death panels in the legislation."

Keep them mentioning the phrase "death panel" -- and then hit them hard with statements like, "Gee, won't that be the practical effect of the mandated end-of-life counselling sessions?" Or, "won't that be the practical effect of making massive cuts in Medicare?" Or, "Gee, what about Obama's key adviser, Ezekiel Emanuel, who says a teenager's life is worth a lot more than that of a senior citizen?"

Keep them sputtering and blustering about the death panels. In short, keep asking them loaded questions -- keep passing them hand grenades. Bring up the "Jane Sturm" episode, where Obama was making the case that a healthy 100-year-old woman shouldn't have received a pacemaker -- the woman is now a health 105 year old. Bring up Obama's grandmother, whom he said shouldn't have received a hip replacement. That is, tie them knots, and beat them senseless.

Troubling Questions Remain About Obama's Health Care Plan

I join millions of Americans in expressing appreciation for the Senate Finance Committee’s decision to remove the provision in the pending health care bill that authorizes end-of-life consultations (Section 1233 of HR 3200).

It’s gratifying that the voice of the people is getting through to Congress; however, that provision was not the only disturbing detail in this legislation; it was just one of the more obvious ones.

As I noted in my statement last week, nationalized health care
inevitably leads to rationing. There is simply no way to cover everyone and hold down the costs at the same time. The rationing system proposed by one of President Obama’s key health care advisors is particularly disturbing.

I’m speaking of the “Complete Lives System” advocated by Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the president’s chief of staff. President Obama has not yet stated any opposition to the “Complete Lives System,” a system which, if enacted, would refuse to allocate medical resources to the elderly, the infirm, and the disabled who have less economic potential. [1]

Why the silence from the president on this aspect of his nationalization of health care? Does he agree with the
“Complete Lives System”? If not, then why is Dr. Emanuel his policy advisor? What is he advising the president on? I just learned that Dr. Emanuel is now distancing himself from his own work and claiming that his “thinking has evolved” on the question of rationing care to benefit the strong and deny the weak. [2]

How convenient that he disavowed his own work only after the nature of his scholarship was revealed to the public at large.

The president is busy assuring us that we can keep our private insurance plans, but common sense (and basic economics) tells us otherwise. The public option in the Democratic health care plan will crowd out private insurers, and that’s what it’s intended to do. A single payer health care plan has been President Obama’s agenda all along, though he is now claiming otherwise.

Don’t take my word for it. Here’s what he said back
in 2003: “I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care plan.... A single payer health care plan – universal health care plan – that’s what I would like to see.” [3]

A single-payer health care plan might be what Obama would like to see, but is it what the rest of us would like to see? What does a single payer health care plan look like? We need look no further than other countries who have adopted such a plan. The picture isn’t pretty. [4]

The only way they can control costs is to ration care. As I noted in my earlier statement quoting Thomas Sowell, government run health care won’t reduce the price of medical care; it will simply refuse to pay the price. The expensive innovative procedures that people from all over the world come to the United States for will not be available under a government plan that seeks to cover everyone by capping costs.

Our senior citizens are right to be wary of this health care bill.

Medical care at the end of life accounts for 80 percent of all health care. When care is rationed, that is naturally where the cuts will be felt first. The “end-of-life” consultations authorized in Section 1233 of HR 3200 were an obvious and heavy handed attempt at pressuring people to reduce the financial burden on the system by minimizing their own care.

Worst still, it actually provided a financial incentive to doctors to initiate these consultations. People are right to point out that such a provision doesn’t sound “purely voluntary.”

In an article I noted yesterday, Charles Lane wrote:

“Ideally, the delicate decisions about how to manage life’s end would be made in a setting that is neutral in both appearance and fact. Yes, it’s good to have a doctor’s perspective. But Section 1233 goes beyond facilitating doctor input to preferring it. Indeed, the measure would have an interested party -- the government -- recruit doctors to sell the elderly on living wills, hospice care and their associated providers, professions and organizations. I agree. Last year, I issued a proclamation for “Healthcare Decisions Day.” [6] The proclamation sought to increase the public’s knowledge about creating living wills and establishing powers of attorney. There was no incentive to choose one option over another. There was certainly no financial incentive for physicians to push anything.

In fact, the proclamation explicitly called on medical professionals and lawyers “to volunteer their time and efforts” to provide information to the public.

Comparing the “Healthcare Decisions Day” proclamation to Section 1233 of HR 3200 is ridiculous. The two are like apples and oranges. The attempt to link the two shows how desperate the proponents of nationalized health care are to shift the debate away from the disturbing details of their bill.

There is one aspect of this bill which I have not addressed yet, but it’s a very obvious one. It’s the simple fact that we can’t afford it. But don’t take my word for it. Take the word of Doug Elmendorf, the director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. He told the Senate Budget Committee last month:

“In the legislation that has been reported we do not see the sort of fundamental changes that would be necessary to reduce the trajectory of federal health spending by a significant amount. And on the contrary, the legislation significantly expands the federal responsibility for health care costs.” [7]

Dr. Elmendorf went on to note that this health care legislation would increase spending at an unsustainable rate.

Our nation is already $11.5 trillion in debt. Where will the money come from? Taxes, of course. And will a burdensome new tax help our economy recover? Of course not. The best way to encourage more health care coverage is to foster a strong economy where people can afford to purchase their own coverage if they choose to do so. The current
administration’s economic policies have done nothing to help in this regard.

Health care is without a doubt a complex and contentious issue, but health care reform should be a market oriented solution. There are many ways we can reform the system and lower costs without nationalizing it.

The economist Arthur Laffer has taken the lead in pushing for a patient-center health care reform policy. He noted in a Wall Street Journal article earlier this month:

“A patient-centered health-care reform begins with individual ownership of insurance policies and leverages Health Savings Accounts, a low-premium, high-deductible alternative to traditional insurance that includes a tax-advantaged savings account. It allows people to purchase insurance policies across state lines and reduces the number of mandated
benefits insurers are required to cover.

"It reallocates the majority of Medicaid spending into a simple voucher for low-income individuals to purchase their own insurance. And it reduces the cost of medical procedures by reforming tort liability laws.” [8]

Those are real reforms that we can live with and afford. Once again, I warn my fellow Americans that if we go down the path of nationalized health care, there will be no turning back. We must stop and think or we may find ourselves losing even more of our freedoms.

The "Obama Health Care" plan really doesn't exist. What we have is HR 3200. Since Obama has not read a word of it, he's not real good on answering questions about it.

Is there really a death panel, as Sarah Palin charged? Yes, there is, but it will be renamed something like "Life begins at 90 panel."

Actually, it's name is The Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research. Its goal is to turn medical care from Mayo Clinic Model into the Dollar General model. Little secret: it's NOT about effectiveness. It's about reducing costs . . . and doing so at all costs.

In fact, the bill says its goal is "to slow the development of new medications and technologies in order to reduce costs." In other words, no more of those pesky (and expensive) new meds that will cure mom's breast cancer or dad's heart arrhythmia.

And then -- don't tell Barack! -- we will have a gentleman or gentlelady who will serve (with a bureaucracy in the tens of thousands) as The National Coordinator for Health Information and Technology. Sounds great, right?

His (Her? Its/) job will be to "monitor treatments being delivered to make sure doctors and hospitals are strictly [key word] following government guidelines that are deemed appropriate." Notice the use of the passive voice ("are deemed"), which are always signs that bureaucrats are work, evading responsibility as they go.

What will happen to doctors and hospitals doing cutting-edge work to keep patients alive? As you might guess, those "not adhering to guidelines will face penalties," which will include hefty fines . . . and even prison terms, particularly handed out to conservative doctors who hate the Obama Plan.

Question: what about those doctors (including mine) and hospitals (some in my area) that are doing a tremendous job healing patients and saving lives? Will they be used as examples for other docs and hospitals? Surely you jest. My betting is that they will be the ones facing fines and jail times. They probably aren't following the already cockamamie government regulations and "guidelines."

Sarah Palin is being attacked in the White House, as well as on ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, the Disney Channel, and CNN for describing ObamaCare as exactly what it is: an exercise in the proposition that when you can make sure people are safely dead, they don't "incur" any addional health costs. Can't argue with that.

Do you really want to contend with the notion that an Obama who favors "live birth abortion" (i.e., infanticide) won't back a form of "eldercare" that includes euthanasia? Admittedly, the death panel won't fully crank up until, say, the third term of Barack Obama, by then known as "President-for-Life."

By then, we'll all be too numb to notice. Every home in America will have a super-size photo of Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel.

Obama's Death Panels: Two Townhalls

The following (in boldface) is from my friend Elyse, who attended two town halls in New Jersey's 9th CD (congressional district). Where is it? If you're a fan of NY Giants and NY Jets football, it includes the area around the Meadowlands pro football stadium. Or if you're a fan of The Sopranos, well, you have a good image of the place, right down to Lodi, NJ, home of the fictitious "Bada Bing" strip club. The congressman there is Steven Rothman, who votes 100% liberal and apparently is an enthusiastic participant in NJ's infamous "politics of corruption." Elyse's description of the town halls is below in boldface. (Note: More tomorrow on how Sarah Palin's characterization of the "death panels" in ObamaCare are accurate.)

Cong. Rothman, like most Democrats in the House, is totally unaware that his cluelessness is producing an explosive situation in the U.S. as his actions, along with those of other leftists, are making our country disappear as if it had all been a dream. The Rothmans of the world believe that it's all fine and good if they extract money from the relative few to buy votes from the many who sit as if they were baby birds waiting for "mom" to put worms in their mouths.

I went to two town hall meetings yesterday done in my district by Steve Rothman, have two more today. Some of the things I noticed were:

- No muscle in evidence in the afternoon session (mostly seniors) in Wallington. Crowd was civil and almost cordial (heavily Democratic town) Seniors were pretty well informed however he cut them off at the knees when they started talking about provisions in the bill by saying nobody knows what the final bill looks like because there are 3 versions that came out of committee. HR 3200 is listed on dozens of congressmen's websites however I couldn't find it on his. No one asked him why the bills that are out of committee are not available for public view.

- Muscle in evidence last night but a bit more discreet than we've seen nationwide - no identifying shirts etc. at the town hall in Palisades Park. Several people commented about the large menacing man in the meeting room itself (I could not get closer than the hallway) who would glower if the people seated didn't voice their approval. Actually told Michele from the NJ Tea Party organization that he would eject her if she didn't keep it down.

- We were unable to ask spontaneous questions - if you wanted to speak you had to fill out a form that Rothman's staff was passing through the crowd (SRO) giving your name, address, phone, email address and the question you would like to ask. There were 4 "plants" in Wallington and at least 8 last night, called on strictly for their favorable comments.

- The Congressman's remarks were even keeled until the last 20 minutes or so when the blame game started going. The debt is Bush's fault yadda yadda. No opportunity for rebuttal. You got your two minutes and that was it.

Stupidly drew the comparison that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid technically were and are unconstitutional but so what???? Unreal. I couldn't believe he made such a dopey comment.

Bashed Reagan for giving amnesty to 5 million illegals besides! As if there were no objections to that action then. It was one of the biggest gaffes of Reagan's Presidency. Think he's a little desperate?

- The little Obamabot girls, those kids that answered the $11-15 an hour Craigslist ads carrying small signs that said Thank you Mr. President for Healthcare Reform...almost threw up. When I asked the one young lady if she knew what the bill was about she had absolutely NO CLUE. Just making a little extra money before school starts, how utterly capitalistic of her ;)

All in all the attendees for these town halls come prepared and angry. Very angry. I was impressed to see all age groups actively engaged, talking to their neighbors and being very clear that they do NOT want what these idiots are selling. Many did their homework, brought with them facts and were well spoken. Expect that as information regarding the parental rights built into the bill that we do have access to comes out today that the questions will get much much tougher.

Two more town halls today, this afternoon in Englewood Cliffs and tonight in Rutherford. Rutherford should be interesting, that is the hometown of my friend Vince who ran against Rothman this past election ;)

Palin Versus Obama on Healthcare

Gov. Sarah Palin in her recent Facebook column (scroll down to see) has become the most effective critic of Barack Obama bizarre health care proposals. As the most likely GOP nominee for president in 2012, Palin is assuming a leading role in opposing Obama's efforts to turn our country into the political, social, and economic equivalent of a landfill.

As regards children with autism, their major protector within the political world is Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska. She looks at them as American citizens with special needs who deserve special protection. Obama looks at them as non-voters and thus not one of the groups that he wishes to favor. Obama's bad taste joke on Letterman about the Special Olympics illustrates where he stands on special needs kids and adults, whom he apparently regards as a burden to society.

Obama's "death panel," condemned by Gov. Palin, will appear as the government takes over health care almost completely. It will set "guidelines" that will separate Obama's favorite groups, such as the more militant unions, from his least favorite groups, including those with autism and Down Syndrome.

Does this sound overly cynical? In fact, it is just a statement of the way Obama, Axelrod, and Emanuel operate. Oh yes, there may be a bone tossed in the direction of the disabled, but they don't need bones. Rather, they need good health care, including physiotherapy and psychological assistance. That's precisely what they won't get.

On death panels, I urge people to read (on Wikipedia and elsewhere) about Obama's "health" advisers, including Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel and Jacob Blumenthal, as well as Princeton Professor Peter Singer, an important outside influence. Emanuel is a death-worshipper. Blumenthal thinks rigid government controls are a good way to "control costs." Singer believes that people with severe disabilities have no real right to life.

What about Obama's "advisers" on the other side? Sadly, there are none.

If there are humane, intellectually sound ways to reduce costs -- and there are, with such things as medical liability reform -- they are NOT included in the Obama Plan. Civil liability reform would offend the ambulance chasers (John Edwards is the most famous one) who contributed tens of millions of dollars to Obama's campaign. Such tort reform would save as much as a trillion dollars over the next 5-6 years, but it will never happen as long as Obama/Pelosi/Reid are in power.

My wife and I save for ourselves (and the nation) approximately $1300 a year by ordering prescriptions in bulk. Why doesn't the Obama Administration encourage such savings nationwide? Because it would anger the executives of pharmaceutical retailers who have embraced the Obama Plan in order not to be punished by the Administration.

We all like to engage in philosophical debates about health reform. However, if we want to know what's really going on, we need to remember an old line from Watergate: "Follow the money." Obama knows that politics and power have everything to do with money.

This gets us back to autistic and Down Syndrome children. Their contributions to the Obama Campaign (one that's endless) adds up to . . . zero. Therefore, they will get nothing from the man who is pretending to be "our president."

As more Americans delve into the disturbing details of the nationalized health care plan that the current administration is rushing through Congress, our collective jaw is dropping, and we’re saying not just no, but hell no!

The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost.

And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

Health care by definition involves life and death decisions. Human rights and human dignity must be at the center of any health care discussion.

Rep. Michele Bachmann highlighted the Orwellian thinking of the president’s health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the White House chief of staff, in a floor speech to the House of Representatives. I commend her for being a voice for the most precious members of our society, our children and our seniors.

We must step up and engage in this most crucial debate. Nationalizing our health care system is a point of no return for government interference in the lives of its citizens. If we go down this path, there will be no turning back.

Ronald Reagan once wrote, “Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.” Let’s stop and think and make our voices heard before it’s too late.

Because the kooks in Alaska kept The Guv from traveling, prevented her from making speeches, raising money for candidates, and doing all the things she needs to do to build a national organization for herself. With her book set to launch in 2010, these same kooks would throw a wrench in her book tour, too, and the assorted Obots assigned to filing bogus ethics complaints against The Guv would complain left and right about her TV appearances, interviews, and other obligations going forward.

Palin is a very smart woman and knows 2012 is her shot if she wants to run for President…but she could not do that as Governor of Alaska. The state’s too far away, but more important than that, the people there are of a very special breed in that they don’t seem to understand a sitting Governor can indeed travel in other states, making appearances, and raising her profile, while carrying out the constitutional duties of the state. In “the lower 48″, Governors cross state lines every day for one reason or another (just try to come between Charlie Crist and an especially attractive taffeta sale in Georgia…or between Bobby Jindal and an exorcism just about anywhere).

But, not Sarah Palin! Hell, no, she can’t go! Make her stay in Alaska where it’s cold and no one can see her! If she leaves the state for any reason, file more ethics complaints! We must destroy this woman AT ALL COSTS!

Dr. Utopia proves that just about anyone can become President of the United States. He spent less time in the US Senate before he ran for President than Sarah Palin has spent as the Chief Executive of the nation’s largest state, with extremely more important duties than any Senator has.

The fact that liberals wailed and cried every time she left the state — declaring how important her job was — proves what great experience she has, and how well she did her job. If her leaving the state’s borders, for even a day, would seemingly trigger a complete collapse of society in Alaska and the end of life as Alaskans knew it, then it’s ludicrous to argue the woman isn’t capable at what she does.

When her party wouldn't support her for Governor she ran on her own -- against their open opposition -- and won. And promptly attacked waste and corruption within the Republican state government.

Then she was drafted by McCain, sparking some indignation in the RNC. She promptly charged the flailing campaign with her energy and her personality, attracting huge numbers of people to GOP rallies, and most likely some new voters. But she got no support from the sclerotic RNC managers -- and the great fighter pilot couldn't shoot straight. Then he bailed out on her after the election, and she received no thanks for her valiant effort; not only was she simply dumped, but reviled and mocked by the insiders and elitists she had worked with.

Palin: President of All Americans

Sarah Palin, even if she serves two terms, would not be able to part the Red Sea.

One of my main selling points to people of various political stripes is that: Sarah Palin will LISTEN to you. And, Sarah Palin will do her darnedest to be PRESIDENT OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, not just the president of AL, MS, UT, and ID.

She will uphold the Constitution, even in cases where her views might differ somewhat from those of the Founders. (For example, freedom of speech and press sometimes get misused, but that doesn't mean such misuses are unConstitutional.) I believe she will be respectful of state constitutions, which occasionally differ from the national document (or at least from Supreme Court interpretations.

I don't expect Sarah to come across as an "anti" in regard to groups (except perhaps terrorists). Sarah Palin is not a clone of any of us. And she's not someone comfortable with pitting one group against another.

For example, Alaska people tend to have a libertarian streak, and Sarah is one of them. She seems to be more a friend of small businesses than of the large ones she knows (the oil companies and oil service firms that misbehaved badly in AK). On the famous "social issues," Sarah clearly believes in teaching by example -- through behavior -- rather than by delivering lectures and passing laws that are unenforceable.

Finally, Sarah's appeal to some liberal women (Elaine Lafferty, Lynn de Rothschild, Tammy Bruce, Camille Paglia, and others) results from them seeing her as, in Lafferty's words, a "feminist" and a "brainiac" -- a good and thoughtful person). We don't need ideological tests to welcome people in as Supporters. After Nov., 2012, we can begin squabbling if necessary (or if we can still recall what the argument was about.)

We must get across to Sarah that there are people backing her, including many people working together on the "Sarah Effort," who can play important roles on ensuring she eventually makes the move to the White House. Smart, curious, hard-working, tough, loyal: those should be the main criteria for Sarah's people. A tradition of working on losing campaigns should be a disqualification.

Beginning in April, 2008, I began working with many people, Democrats, Independents, and even a few Republicans, who supported Hillary Clinton. It became evident that the "Hillary votes" were critical to any Republican candidate running against Obama. My guess was that we needed six million of the 20 million voters (including those in caucus states) who supported Clinton in the primaries.

I began a blog (HillarySupportersforMcCain) and posted a couple of hundred pieces on it. Today, eight months later, I stopped posting on that site long ago, but it still gets 30-35 or so visitors a week.

A not-so-secret-secret: I don't like Hillary Clinton as a politician. I never did. But I believe my efforts helped the McCain-Palin ticket by my emphasizing that Hillary Supporters' votes were needed and valued. (I did believe Mrs. Clinton would be much better as a president than BHO, although not nearly as good as many of her Supporters believed.)

For months, I was co-host, with the irrepressible Cristi Adkins of VA, on the radio program "Clintons4McCain." We had a blast . . . and interviewed many terrific guests, including Bev Perlson and Gold Star Mother Debbie Lee.

In the end, we didn't get the six millions votes (from Hillary Supporters) that we needed. However, we apparently did get four million-plus of them. The additional two million votes would have allowed us to win several states (perhaps including FL) that would have provided many more electoral votes.

Many of the Hillary Supporters, including some on this list, have become good friends of mine. . . and tremendous allies in advancing the cause of Gov. Palin. Yes, I sometimes got a major Excedrin headache from Hillary Supporters -- mainly those who saw her wrongly as a modern Joan of Arc.

But I always tried not to stray far from political reality. My goal over the next several years is not to step out of that Political Reality Zone. Arguing with people who support Sarah is pointless.

Some of the Sarah/Hillary Supporters have a history of being fairly liberal -- Elaine Lafferty (former editor of Ms.) is one, along with Camille Paglia and Tammy Bruce. I don't care about their pasts; I care about Sarah's and America's future.

Remember, a couple of million people who call themselves "conservative" voted for Barack Obama. I don't recall him or Axelrod handing back those votes.

Sarah Palin's appeal transcends ideology. As I said before, she has conservative, libertarian, and populist (like the Alaska Constitution) elements. She has strong support in the gay community. She has great potential with young voters and Hispanics. She can draw many votes from YWP (Young Women Professionals) as soon as it dawns on them she's a YWP. The large number of parents of special needs children are seeing her as a major advocate.

If we're successful in reaching out to voters in the above communities, we will end up electing this good woman as POTUS.

As governor of Alaska, Sarah was basically being held prisoner in her home state. Now, she's free to be a national leader. She belongs not just to Alaska, but to America. "Free at last . . . free at last . . . thank God Almighty . . . "

Conservatives: Get Behind Sarah Palin

Some conservatives -- not many, but some -- have "problems" with Sarah Palin, mainly because she's a blend of conservatism, libertarianism, and populism. Those conservatives need to get over it, because Sarah Palin can be for Republicans the Second Coming of Ronald Reagan.

Yesterday in her remarks, Gov. Palin cited the Alaska Constitution, which is a populist document she's sworn to uphold. Among other things, it says that the resources in Alaska belong to the people of that state -- not the oil companies, not Wall Street firms, not the most affluent Alaskans.

Some conservatives, not many, are horrified by that notion. I've heard people say that Sarah was mean to the oil companies, which in Alaska and elsewhere, have a history of heavy-handedness, arrogance, and bribery. (I worked for two oil companies, Phillips and Gulf, both of which had engaged in handing over bribe money to politicians.)

Six-out-ten Americans identify themselves as NOT conservatives. What are we going to do to get their votes (not to mention the many conservatives who voted for Obama)? If our answer is "nothing," then we have lost our minds.

On immigration, the notion that Hispanics voted against McCain because he was a supporter of the McCain-Kennedy bill is ridiculous. I wish it were true, but there is no evidence Hispanics believed Obama was anything but pro-amnesty.

Overall, McCain was a much more conservative candidate than Obama and Palin was a much more conservative candidate than Biden. We can determine that by looking at McCain's American Conservative Union vote analysis, up around 75--80%, and then looking at Obama's, down around zero (as was Biden's).

In the election of 2008 and to a lesser degree in 2006, Hispanics punished candidates, almost all Republicans, whom they perceived as anti-Mexican or anti-Hispanic. Hispanics are the largest minority group in America, and to win national elections, we must get more votes from them.

Our outreach to Hispanic Americans has been pathetic. When a strong CubanAmerican candidate surfaced in Florida, Marco Rubio, the head of the Republican Senatorial Committee (John Cornyn) rushed out to support Rubio's opponent (Charlie Crist). Crist would be replacing the one Hispanic Republican in the Senate (Mel Martinez).

There is no greater challenge facing Sarah Palin than the need to reach out and gain a significant percentage of Hispanic votes. She must never adopt positions that are perceived (by Hispanics) as anti-Hispanic.

FOX News: Room for Improvement

I am often critical of people on FOX news. Many of their "stars," including Greta and sometimes Hannity, are mainly interested in getting viewers rather than providing solid information. Notice Greta's continual comments on how this-or-that "is really going to raise your blood pressure . . . or get you angry."

Frankly, raising the national blood pressure may cause more heart attacks, but it's not going to remove Obama from power. Organizing, calling our congressional representatives, donating money to conservative causes (e.g., www.sarahpac.com) are what will end the national nightmare.

For FOX or anyone else to suggest otherwise is just game-playing.

Rush gave Greta a thumping the other night when she expressed her silly "hope" that Obama's Stimulus package, which she apparently knows nothing about, will work. Rush basically told her that a vague "hope" is for losers, and he's right.

As for Geraldo, who's a pro-illegals leftist with a history of grandstanding, he should not be on FOX or anything else. Anyone who spend one minute of his or her time watching "Geraldo" needs to find more productive things to do. There is not a conservative bone in Geraldo's body.

There are some great young people on FOX -- one is Patty Ann Browne on the Beck show, another is Greg Gutfield on their weekend late show, and others are Andrea Tantaros and S. E. Cupp -- but there many other big shots interested more in making millions than in winning the battle for America.

Sarah Palin's Supporter: Rush Limbaugh

I absolutely loved what Rush Limbaugh said on Greta Friday night about Sarah Palin. She should meet with him soon and talk to him on his radio show -- perhaps for the entire three hours (is it three hours).

Yes, there are Republicans who have "problems" with Sarah Palin. Those were the people Limbaugh mentioned as the DC, NY, Boston "Republicans" (Olympia Snowe? Mitt Romney, Arlen Specter?) who have contempt for some 50 million Americans who always vote for the more conservative candidate. Half of those 50 million people listen to Rush . . . and share his views.

My Republican "friends" who dislike Palin -- or badmouth her -- rapidly become ex-friends. If you love America -- in all its complexity and sheer grittiness -- you are going to adore Sarah Heath Palin. Rush Limbaugh is a critical ally for Sarah. His support is the way you win primaries in America . . . and his message of freedom, tolerance, love of country, and opportunity is the same as Sarah's message.

Palin Supporters Meeting at CPAC!

I've been asked about when, where, and how much for the Palin Supporters CPAC (Conservative Political Action) Convention meeting in 2010. The best way to get answers to all your questions is to go to the CPAC web site (which also allows for early registration). Conservative Political Action Conference

The next CPAC will be held February 18-20, 2010 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington D.C.

The cost for attemdomg the three-day CPAC session will be as low as $150 (not including travel and lodging), although you can of course pay more for "status goodies" (e.g., the "presidential" banquet, NOT THIS YEAR FEATURING BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA -- sorry). Costs for students' attending are low.

I'm just thinking off the top of my head about our own meeting(s) at CPAC, but we probably should talk about organizing, fundraising, voter registration, and use of "new media." I very much hope we could get a drop-in from Govenor Palin, but if that's not possible, we can get a member of her family.

Our own "Palinstas" meeting at CPAC (not endless, not unfocused) should get us all working effectively toward the Inauguration of President Sarah Louise Heath Palin in January, 2013.

Between now and the election of 2012, we need to work together as closely and effectively as possible. I expect members of our movement at CPAC to be an extremely diverse group of people and to represent a majority of states. My personal goal will be to help keep your expenses low. I've said one of my intentions for CPAC and the early primaries (IO, NH, NV, and SC) is to purchase a very good sleeping bag. I want all my extra discretionary dollars to go Palln for President (SarahPAC currently).

Trust me, going to Iowa and New Hampshire in the dead of winter, which many Palinstas will do, is not exactly a vacation.

Sonia Sotomayor: The Unwise Latina

Barack Obama and Sonia Sotomayor: An American Love Affair . . .

Sonia Sotomayor graduated "summa cum laude" (highest honors) with a degree in political science from Princeton University. Apparently, poli sci at Princeton, as at many big-time universities, is an easy major, one that doesn't demand a great command of the English language.

On Sunday and Monday, I'll be writing more about Sonia Sotomayor's intellectual limitations, which are many.

The other day I was taking notes during the first two days of the Sotomayor hearings. Her comments were legalistic and jargon-ridden to the point of being incomprehensible. When Senator Coburn asked her if we Americans "have a right to self-defense in our own homes," she gave an incoherent answer.

Even worse, she regularly misused common English words. In answering (sort of) Coburn's question she use the word "eminent" (standing out above others) several times when she meant "imminent." (about-to-happen). If she's ever ruled on the concept of "eminent domain," goodness knows what the decision sounded like.

Also, when she was talking about an individual's "store of knowledge" (itself a redundant phrase) she called it "story of knowledge." It was an absurd blunder. I doubt she won any spellingbees at Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx.

(Marine Delano of New York State pointed out to me that Sotomayor badly mispronounced the Latin phrase "sui generis," meaning originally "of its own kind" and now generally meaning individual or unique. Sotomayor pronounced it "soo jen-riss," whereas the correct form is "soo-eye gen-er-iss.")

The Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have been slobbering (and shedding tears) over Ms. Sotomayor and her supposed "brilliance." Sotomayor once described herself as the "poster girl for Affirmative Action." In her case, truer words were never spoken.

She's not a "wise Latina." She's an unwise one. She wouldn't even be a good candidate for the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico.

Oh yes, she's a certain to get confirmed. Her confirmation is imminent, although there's nothing eminent about her.

America now is the country where every girl, even stupid ones, can grow up to be a Supreme Court Justice.

I've written perhaps 900 blog posts (really!) on Gov. Sarah Palin -- and read perhaps a thousand more. I've never found a better one about Sarah (or about the person who wrote it) than the one linked below by Adrienne Ross. The piece is about getting new supporters for Sarah Palin. The writer is Adrienne Ross, a young Black woman from upstate New York. She captures the spirit of "Palinistas" -- and the riveting appeal of Sarah Heath Palin.

This friend and I hadn't communicated for months due to some disagreements regarding my blog, some of which we probably still have, but as she shared what took place within her, she wrote, "I owe you this much." She went on to say that she would now be praying for Sarah. What better response is there?! That is indeed a God-thing--and He used liberal Time magazine! Shhh...Don't tell 'em! LOL!

Palin and Obama's "Tar Baby"

Bulletin: President Barack Hussein Obama makes dover of Mad Magazine!

Lee Atwater practiced "tar baby" politics. Willie Horton was Dukakis' "tar baby," and Atwater (along with a guy named Floyd Brown, who's still around) attached the "team" of Dukakis-Horton together. If I'd been king of the McCain Campaign, I would have suggested the same with the team of Obama-Wright. One problem: John McCain NEVER mentioned the name "Jeremiah Wright," and apparently forbade Sarah from doing so. I believe McCain only mentioned Bill Ayers' name once, perhaps twice.

The campaign gave Sarah a script to use on Obama-Ayers, and it was a pretty lame script ("paling around with terrorists"). They failed to portray Obama as a socialist who was proposing job-destroying (key term) tax policies. And on and on . . .

The result was that Obama, throughout the campaign, had very high "positives." At one point (with the lady in Wisconsin) McCain told us we "have nothing to fear from an Obama presidency." He should have added, "Heck, I may vote for him myself."

I'm not suggesting that McCain should have run a Darth Vader campaign, only that he should have established Barack Obama as a radical who would do great harm to individual Americans. As I've said before, I kept wondering "Exactly why is John McCain running for President? Does he really think it's important that the American people elect him rather than the other guy?"

As Pamela Geller put it recently in WND, Sarah Palin's "simplicity" is her strength rather than her weakness. For example, 18% of the people eligible for Medicare have "no health insurance." Make them sign up, and we significantly reduce the number of uninsured. Many of those people don't sign up because they don't want to pay the 90 bucks a month premium. Okay, find out what needs to been done to get them to pay it -- and then do what's necessary.

Those approaches may have some bad sides, but it's a lot better than what we're seeing now in Congress. If we PAID private insurance -- basic coverage -- for ALL the uninsured, it would cost less than the proposals now in front of Congress.

Sarah Palin will never be able to cite statistics on health care (from a TelePrompter) that come trippingly off the tongue of Hussein, but his statistics are all self-serving and ultimately bogus.

There is no shortage of threats to our economy. America's unemployment rate recently hit its highest mark in more than 25 years and is expected to continue climbing. Worries are widespread that even when the economy finally rebounds, the recovery won't bring jobs. Our nation's debt is unsustainable, and the federal government's reach into the private sector is unprecedented.

Unfortunately, many in the national media would rather focus on the personality-driven political gossip of the day than on the gravity of these challenges. So, at risk of disappointing the chattering class, let me make clear what is foremost on my mind and where my focus will be:
I am deeply concerned about President Obama's cap-and-trade energy plan, and I believe it is an enormous threat to our economy. It would undermine our recovery over the short term and would inflict permanent damage.

American prosperity has always been driven by the steady supply of abundant, affordable energy. Particularly in Alaska, we understand the inherent link between energy and prosperity, energy and opportunity, and energy and security. Consequently, many of us in this huge, energy-rich state recognize that the president's cap-and-trade energy tax would adversely affect every aspect of the U.S. economy.

There is no denying that as the world becomes more industrialized, we need to reform our energy policy and become less dependent on foreign energy sources. But the answer doesn't lie in making energy scarcer and more expensive! Those who understand the issue know we can meet our energy needs and environmental challenges without destroying America's economy.

Job losses are so certain under this new cap-and-tax plan that it includes a provision accommodating newly unemployed workers from the resulting dried-up energy sector, to the tune of $4.2 billion over eight years. So much for creating jobs.

In addition to immediately increasing unemployment in the energy sector, even more American jobs will be threatened by the rising cost of doing business under the cap-and-tax plan. For example, the cost of farming will certainly increase, driving down farm incomes while driving up grocery prices. The costs of manufacturing, warehousing and transportation will also increase.

The ironic beauty in this plan? Soon, even the most ardent liberal will understand supply-side economics.

The Americans hit hardest will be those already struggling to make ends meet. As the president eloquently puts it, their electricity bills will "necessarily skyrocket." So much for not raising taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year.

Even Warren Buffett, an ardent Obama supporter, admitted that under the cap-and-tax scheme, "poor people are going to pay a lot more for electricity."

We must move in a new direction. We are ripe for economic growth and energy independence if we responsibly tap the resources that God created right underfoot on American soil. Just as important, we have more desire and ability to protect the environment than any foreign nation from which we purchase energy today.

In Alaska, we are progressing on the largest private-sector energy project in history. Our 3,000-mile natural gas pipeline will transport hundreds of trillions of cubic feet of our clean natural gas to hungry markets across America. We can safely drill for U.S. oil offshore and in a tiny, 2,000-acre corner of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge if ever given the go-ahead by Washington bureaucrats.

Of course, Alaska is not the sole source of American energy. Many states have abundant coal, whose technology is continuously making it into a cleaner energy source. Westerners literally sit on mountains of oil and gas, and every state can consider the possibility of nuclear energy.

We have an important choice to make. Do we want to control our energy supply and its environmental impact? Or, do we want to outsource it to China, Russia and Saudi Arabia? Make no mistake: President Obama's plan will result in the latter.

For so many reasons, we can't afford to kill responsible domestic energy production or clobber every American consumer with higher prices.

Can America produce more of its own energy through strategic investments that protect the environment, revive our economy and secure our nation?

Yes, we can. Just not with Barack Obama's energy cap-and-tax plan.

Palin: "How Do I Win?"

Sarah is looking at segments of the electorate (including Independents, a tricky category, and urban/suburban women) and determining how she can appeal to them. She wants a majority of U.S. voters, and she realizes that our beloved conservative Republicans are a minority. Thus, she needs to get more "others," nontraditional supporters of conservative candidates.

I don't see a purely Independent run as one that would succeed. However, Sarah's own "independence" from the Alaska Republican Party need to be better known.

On her support for "conservative Democrats." I don't think there are enough of them to fill a bread-box, but there are some. In certain districts, the same old liberal Democrats have been winning for decades. If truly conservative (or even moderate) Democrats would challenge incumbents in such districts, Sarah should support them and so should we.

In several urban districts in PA (and the same is true of NYS), all the action is in the Democratic primaries, and many people register as Democrat but rarely support members of that Party in general elections.

Sarah is thinking outside the proverbial box on these issues. She's not aking herself "How do I get the GOP nomination?" She's asking, "After I get the nomination, how do I win?"

Palin Readying for Independent Run

When it comes to the GOP, Sarah Palin's message for it seems to be: "As ye sow, so shall ye reap." The "good ole boys" who run the Republican Party are not held in high regard by Gov. Palin. In an interview with the Washington Times, Palin makes her most direct comments yet about Conservativism versus the Republican Party. In my humble opinion, it’s clear the GOP, unfortunately, is lost beyond the point of return. When you’re one year out of key campaigns to take back Congress in 2010 and Meghan McCain is The Oracle of the party, you know it’s over. If Tina Brown thought Ms. McCain’s willingness to be a Useful Idiot for liberals would undermine the conservative movement (and consequently Sarah Palin), she should take a serious and long look at what their attacks on Palin provoked: a stronger, more independent, more determined conservative leader and base.

Enter now Sarah Palin with very encouraging comments that lead one to believe that she is indeed planning to do what she must: build an independent conservative movement and take this nation back from the liberals which now control both parties.Thanks liberals, for provoking Sarah into the national scene while vetting that family at the same time.

One thing I will say, the Washington Times with their headline for this exclusive interview reveal an anti-Palin stance. She is, don’t doubt, a threat to every existing political status quo. I hope the Washington Times and their editors realize, sooner than later, that the Palin movement is unstoppable and their credibility would be saved simply by reporting the news instead of becoming a GOP version of the NYT..

Sarah Palin Support Growing Exponentially

Greg Hanson, one of Sarah's Palin staunchest backers provided the following information on the dramatic growth in support for Gov. Palin:

Gov. Palin's Facebook will hit 650,000 tomorrow, and her Twitter will hit 94,000. Team Sarah has gained about 1,500 new members just this week. 0bama has about 6 million on his Facebook, but from what I've read a significant amount of them are in other countries. If Palin keeps a steady appearance schedule, scoring as many points off 0bama as she can, doing charity events, and utilizing alternative media, she could very easily have 6 million on her Facebook by time the primary season rolls around.

The SarahPAC website should be given a complete overhaul, and SarahPAC itself should be staffed by savvy professionals, and advisors. It has the potential to become the financial powerhouse of 2010, and money is power. Yesterday I got yet another plea for funds from the RNC. Everytime one arrives, I annotate it, "All my donations are going to SarahPAC, XXX donated so far," and returned to them in their postage paid envelope.

Don't know if you saw this, but Palin was featured in Runners World magazine, which has a circulation of 750,000+.

2012 Election: Palin Defeating Hussein

A significant majority of people who voted for Obama believe Sarah said, "I can see Russia from my house." As Debbie notes, Sarah never said any such thing. The sadsacks in the McCain Campaign, who ran everything, never counterattacked with ferocity, and thus "myths" were allowed to fester. I told someone today that I regard John McCain as an American hero, but I also regard him as a terrible presidential candidate.

Sarah will be a great candidate, particularly if she has people around her who are very talented and intensely loyal. Talent and loyalty translate into telling her the truth about what needs to be done to win. It also means anticipating what the enemy --- political and media -- will be doing next. To someone like John McCain, the MSM IS the media -- CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, the Times, and the Post. To me, they are the enemy that is out to do us (including SP) harm.

McCain and his senior staff were incredibly weak in terms of Internet politics, and volunteers, like the TeamSarah people played a much more important role than the McCain Campaign. The Hillary Supporters/NoBama group had more than 300 bloggers for McCain-Palin. We got zero help from the McCain Campaign, which may have been barely aware we existed.

At one point in the summer, John McCain went "across the aisle" to pat Barack Obama on the back and congratulate him on being the presumptive nominee. I thought at the time, "Barack Obama does not regard you as his esteemed 'colleague'; Barack Obama despises you and everything you stand for." Sadly, even after the campaign , McCain would be amazed to hear that. Sarah Palin, in contrast, knows a bunch of political dirtbags when she sees them.

Lee Atwater said of Michael Dukakis 20 years ago, "I'm going to make [convicted murderer and rapist] Willie Horton his running mate." I would have made Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers Obama's running mates.

McCain never wanted the name Wright mentioned. Naivete in the extreme.

Obama Administration: Seams Coming Apart

The number of people who "strongly approve" of Barack Obama is dropping rapidly, while the number who "strong disapprove" of Obama is rising sharaply. These are not happy times for Baarack Hussein Obama and his political guru, David Axelrod.

For Gov. Sarah Palin to win the presidency in 2012, she needs "help" from the Obama Administration. In fact, as the "strongly disapprove" numbers above indicate, Obama and his political cronies are providing lots of help, as the President's "strongly disappove" number rise to dramatic new heights. In the words of the old commercial, "The Obama presidency has fallen . . . and it can't get up.

Some major figures in the Obama Administration will be gone soon, including Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Tim Geithner, and press secretary Robert Gibbs. In fact, Biden, Geithner, and Gibbs will be shoved out. Mrs. Clinton will leave because she's become invisible and irrelevant, a Secretary-of-State in name only.

Hawaii political analyst Jill Rethman and I both wrote (see below for yesterday's column) that Hillary's tenure as Sec. of State will be a short one. On Biden's coming resignation for "health reasons," he is a human gaffe machine and, as such, major liability to the Obama crowd. In his comments yesterday on supposed health care "savings," the V-P appeared ill and lifeless.

Robert Gibbs? He may limp along for a few more months. Warren Buffet blasted Geithner this morning on ABC, and that is very bad news for the hapless Treasury Secretary -- of course, Buffet was an important early supporter of Obama.

The only thing more "troubled" than the TARP program is Geithner himself, a man clearly out of his league. As unemployment continues to skyrocket, Obama and Axelrod will need to look for a scapegoat, and odds are that Geithner will be "their man."

If both cap-and-trade and healthcare reform fail this summer, which appears likely, the designated scapegoat in that case could be Rahm Emanuel. He could either lose his job, or much of his power. The dropping of Biden as V-P nominee was a real possiblity during the general election campaign. What saved Biden's role was the collapse of the economy, which occurred around Sept. 15 and eradicated McCain-Palin's lead in the polls.

If Obama had then replaced Biden with Hillary, she would have spent the next four years in "an undisclosed location." I also believe Bernanke is in trouble in the Fed. Jim Demint and others are calling for an "audit" of the Fed, which would be about as pretty as nude pictures of Barbara Mikulsi.

I'm sure Hillary is delivering some ultimatums, now that she must recognize Obama's goal is to shut her up and marginalize both her and Bill Clinton. Of course, the MSM responds to all these emerging developments by drooling out of both sides of its mouth.

2912 Race: Palin Versus Obama

One of the best analysts of Gov. Palin the race for the presidency in 2012 is Greg Hanson. Recently, in the comments section of my blog, Greg wrote the followiing predictions about what the future holds for Sarah Palin:

In the short term, Sarah's resignation may cause her numbers to drop, but as people see more and more of her in the lower 48, drawing huge, wildly enthusiastic crowds, her numbers will rebound, and be higher than before.

Sarah Palin is not "politics as usual," and that is what more and more people will find very attractive over the coming months, and years. What the chattering class can't figure out is why anyone would give up power without being forced to because of illegality or some type of scandal. To the elites, title and power are everything, being a private citizen is nothing, and why would anyone want to become a nobody.

My prediction is that Sarah Palin, free of Alaska, will help raise millions for charities that she believes in, will help raise millions for the GOP, will campaign tirelessly for conservative candidates, starting with the governors races in VA and NJ (she'll pull them across the finishline.) She'll lead the charge in 2010, helping the GOP make major gains in both houses of congress.

My fervant desire is that SarahPAC will be financial powerhouse that helps fuel the return of conservatism, that SarahPAC will scare off Pawlenty, Gingrich, and maybe even Huckabee. All the other possible contenders know already that they cannot compete with her in her ability to draw crowds, they'll draw crowds in the dozens and maybe hundreds, she'll draw crowds in the thousands and tens of thousands.

I also believe that Sarah Palin's book will be one of the most carefully crafted books of the modern era, as she and Lynn Vincent know that it will also be one of the most closely examined books of the modern era. Going into 2012, Palin will have her book (probably a run away best seller,) millions of supporters on Facebook, hundreds of thousands on Twitter, maybe 150,000 in Team Sarah, the best online presence of any candidate, and a grassroots organization second to none.

The 2012 nomination, baring any unforeseen circumstances, is hers for the asking. For that reason alone, you can count on the media to continue to savage her at every turn.

The Sins of Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin is a sinner. She has violated several commandments and thoroughly deserves the savage beating that she is now getting from political mandarins and media elites.

If it were not for one simple fact, I would say she was through in politics. And that fact is that if the Republicans were picking a nominee today, they would pick Sarah Palin.

No? Don’t believe me? Who would beat her? Tim Pawlenty? Bobby Jindal? Haley Barbour? Mike Huckabee? Mitt Romney?

All of these men might build credible, attractive, even powerful political operations by 2012. But right now? Today? Today, Sarah Palin would be the winner, because more than anyone else, she has won over the hearts and minds of the Republican rank and file. (And tell me that a Sarah Palin-Newt Gingrich ticket would not set conservative hearts aflutter.)

She has done this by sinning, however. Let us list just some of the political commandments she has recently violated:

Thou shalt not surprise the media.

Palin announces she is quitting her job as governor of Alaska, and she catches everybody by surprise. What is up with that?

Where were the leaks and the trial balloons? Why weren’t the media alerted so they could have predicted it?

When you do what the media have predicted, you are “savvy.” You are a “skilled” and “adept” politician.

If you surprise the media, however, you are “out of control” and “bizarre” and even “egotistical.” (Though I have always believed that accusing politicians of being egotistical is like accusing ballerinas of dancing on their toes.)

How badly do some in the media take to surprise? Here is CNN’s Rick Sanchez on Palin’s announcement that she was leaving office prematurely. “Is there anything going on with her that perhaps may lead her to want to make this decision, and the one thing that’s still left out there is, hey, could she be pregnant again?” Sanchez asked.

Could be, Rick. Or maybe it was just her time of month, because, hey, that’s why woman politicians make the decisions they do, right?

But you can see why some in the media were shocked and dismayed. Imagine abandoning your office! Imagine quitting and deserting the voters who elected you!

Though this is what Bob Dole did in 1996, didn’t he? Dole resigned his Senate seat to run for president. I remember it. I was standing right there when he did it. And I don’t recall anybody accusing him of being a quitter. Or of being pregnant.

Thou shalt not upset the pooh-bahs.

The Republican Party likes to nominate the next guy in line. John McCain in 2008, George W. Bush in 2000 and Bob Dole in 1996 were all the next guys in line. They had “earned” their place in the party hierarchy. (Or, in the case of George W. Bush, his father had earned it for him.)

Today, it is hard to see who the next guy in line is, but the party mandarins, the pooh-bahs, are agreed on one thing: Sarah Palin ain’t it.

She is a dumb hick, a nobody from nowhere. She hunts moose with a chainsaw from the back of a snowmobile or something. Just listen to her resignation speech. It was not slick or polished or written by somebody else. She appeared to deliver it off the top of her head as if she were a real person. What a doofus!

Doesn’t she know that the highest form of political communication today is to exactly regurgitate a speech written for you by a speechwriter who has crafted, vetted and polled every phrase, line and word?

But listen to Palin. Listen to how “rambling” and “disjointed” she is. Once upon a time in American politics, this was known as being “plain-spoken,” but that time has gone. An entire industry of political consultants has grown up to make sure politicians are never plain-spoken.
Sarah Palin does not get this. Which is to say she is not very bright. (Or else she is pregnant, in which case, I apologize.)

Thou shalt pander to the few, not speak to the many.

John Weaver, a former McCain aide, told Adam Nagourney of The New York Times that Sarah Palin now has little chance of ever becoming the party’s presidential nominee.

“Somebody has to explain to Republicans how this woman is going to expand her support base,” Weaver said. “Yes, she is the darling of a certain element of our party. But it remains to be seen — in fact, it remains rather doubtful she can grow beyond that.”

She is the “darling of a certain element” of Republicans? It seems to me that with the party collapsing to its most conservative core, that “certain element” could also be called the majority of the Republican Party.

But maybe that is not enough. It is only a “certain element” of the party that finds her energizing, fresh, tough and willing to stand up to the mandarins and the media. Clearly, Palin must “grow” beyond that base to win over ... whom? The McCain wing of the Republican Party? Find it, and maybe she can win it over.

Having said all this, I do not think Palin is being crazy like a fox. I don’t think she has planned out what she will do in 2012.

I think she has quit her job, is doing what she wants to do and is reserving judgment about her future.

In doing so, she has made herself an outcast to the mandarins, the pooh-bahs and the elites.
So how can she go wrong?

Sarah Palin: Resignation as Heroism

The mainstream media doesn't "get" Sarah Palin -- doesn't understand who she is or what she does -- because she's an American heroine in an age of anti-heroism.

I believe -- and know Sarah believes -- that our country's "problems" -- in immigration, in healthcare, in education, and in national security -- are solvable. Many of them were at least partially "solved" a generation ago, not by over-reliance on government but by reliance on the American values Sarah represents.

The supposed solutions socialist governments in Europe have pursued have led to very high unemployment, slow growth, and a truly crippling burden of debt on coming generations. They have no way on earth of paying for their versions of Social Security or health care. I urge people to read about this in Niall Ferguson's Collosus: The American Empire. The only country in Europe that will be able to meet its stated obligations to their Baby Boomers is Great Britain -- and that's only because of the foresight of Margaret Thatcher, who refused to promise ten times as much as she could deliver.

Sarah Palin is an authentic heroine, someone who values family, state, and country rather than engaging in the usual political narcissism and self-dealing. Sadly, that's a problem in an era that thinks a pathetic, tragi-comic figure like Michael Jackson is somehow a hero.

In the words of Professor Guelzo of Gattysburg College: "Heroes have become invisible. Their virtues have become unexplainable in the language we now use to explain human action . . . . Great deeds somehow keep on being done, but we have lost a capacity to see them as great. Biographies grow to ever-greater and greater length, while the subjects of them shrink into the shadows of the pedestrian, the ordinary, and the relentlessly disclosed 'secret.' . . . The hero is the story, not just of a good deed, but of a great deed -- a great deed which climbs the unclimable, endures the unendurable, holds fast to the lost."

Professor Allen C. Guelzo, meet Sarah Heath Palin. Conservative activist Karen Allen and I had a discussion a while back about various things, including "constitutional amendments" on various issues. I told her I opposed them -- and believed Sarah Palin did also. We don't need a "better" Constitution. We need better people who make us a better country.

Most important, we desperately need Role Models ("Sarah, we need you!") who will remind people what great individuals do and how fulfilling basic goodness can be. On Friday, Sarah proposed her youngest son, Trig, as a role model, someone who needed her but whom she needed even more. Those comments would not -- YET -- be intelligible to most Americans.

She may (or may not) have made a political sacrifice by her recent actions, but then, she -- yes a consummate politician -- doesn't think ultimately in political terms.

What is best for my family? What is best for my state? What is best for my country? When our American people begin focusing on those questions -- the same ones that drive American soldiers -- the nation will be one that recognizes and reveres American heroes and heroines.

I believe Sarah Palin made Friday's decision herself. She was basically being held prisoner in Alaska ("Boo hoo, Sarah doesn't 'wub' us as much as she 'wubs' the lower-48." She's better off being the former Gov. of Alaska. Essentially, Sarah was being held "prisoner" in Alaska because of the endless whining that ook place in The Anchorage Daily News and elsewhere whenver she ventured out-of-state.

Sarah is a national figure with national aspirations, and it's in her best interest not to continue to serve as Governor. It's that simple folks.

Some "conservative pundits," generally as idiotic as their liberal counterparts will express bogus horror that Sarah has "quit her day-job." Frankly, Sarah doesn't want to run for President on the state of Alaska's dime. Obama quit as his own day-job, as U.S. Senator -- or at least stopped performing it -- after serving less than a year. Nobody raised a peep.

Here's how Greg Hanson, a keen observer, described Sarah's actions:

"I just read the transcript of her speech, and nothing in there tells me that she's the least bit interested in quitting. She is taking her fight to a completely new level. She is now free to come and go as she pleases, and will undoubtedly be taking advantage of some of the hundreds of invitations she's received. Look for Sarah Palin at a venue near you in the coming weeks and months. I find it interesting that her resignation comes about the same time as SarahPAC's numbers are reported. My hunch is that they will be huge, and will be a very big story both as to the amount raised, and the number of donors, all with very little effort on her part. This is the opening salvo of the 2012 campaign. Start packing 0bama, you're finished."

Palin: Second Coming of Reagan

Ronald Reagan's son Michael said of Sarah Palin that she marked the Second Coming of his father, except she came in an unexpected form: "wearing a skirt and bearing children."

When Reagan was elected president in 1980, I was overjoyed. I remembered (and remember) his remarkable speech in 1964 in support of Barry Goldwater. My expectations for Reagan were extremely high. I expected (hoped?) he would repair a badly damaged economy -- and to take extraordinary steps to do so. I didn't expect him to end the Cold War, which looked as if it would go on forever, but I had high hopes that he at least begin the process of ending what he called the "evil empire." He did a lot more than that.

I also knew that his optimism and love of America (and its people, who are not always lovable) would be a great tonic for our native land. When Reagan appeared at the Olympics, people started chanting "USA, USA!" He had become synonymous with America. He was a staunch adherent to what historians call "American exceptionalism," the belief (one that is true) which recognizes that America is "not just another nation."

The liberals at the time claimed Reagan would be a "war-monger," which was the reverse of the truth. However, as a child of WW II, he did understand the truth of Senator Pat Moynihan's assertion: "You must remember that we are a warrior nation." In my heart, I also know that RR knew the truth of Gen. Lee's statement after the battle of Fredericksburg: "It is a good thing war is so terrible, else we should love it too much."

Mark Sanford and Sarah Palin

Mark Sanford showed on many occasions that he didn't much like Sarah Palin. One reason (not one Sanford would cite) is that Gov. Palin is an incredibly disciplined, focused individual. By contrast, Sanford is what John Edwards called himself: an egotist and narcissist. Father of four and governor of a state with millions of people, Sanford lives in a world inhabited by one person: himself. He hurts other people, ranging from his wife and children to his mistress, because they are some not "real" in his mind and heart.

We all need friends who will tell us the truth, and I fear Sanford had only people (aside from his impressive spouse, Jenny) who told him what he wanted to hear. It's almost amazing to hear how childish Sanford is. His view of life, marriage, romance is right out of 1950s movies -- or modern soap operas. For all I know, Sanford may "love" Jenny, but it's a shallow form of love that doesn't include the most important element: respect for his wife.

I knew a professor at the University of Georgia, Calvin Brown, a Rhodes scholar, who had a student say to him: "I just want to be myself." Brown told him, "Really? You should aim higher than that."

The man (Sanford) has four children for goodness sake. And he's no more than a child himself.

Greg H. posted some interesting (and positive) comments (below in italics) about how Gov. Palin is doing in the blogosphere. Things are moving very much in the right direction for Sarag Palin. If we achieve a grassroots efforts that is truly huge -- and I believe we will -- we can win the presidential election in 2012. Frankly, it's as much up to us as it is to Gov. Palin.

In many of the states won by Obama (including FL, IN, OH, MI, and some others) the economic situation is calamitous, with unemployment up in the double-digits. On issues like cap and trade, healthcare, and immigration reform, Obama must get legislation passed this year or he can forget about it through the balance of his first (and last) term.

On my DraftPalin2012 blog, I posted this weekend Cindy R's useful comments on how bloggers can take steps that will move the online momentum even more in Gov. Palin's direction. Sarah is counterattacking very effectively against the liberal mudslingers. She neturalized (neutered?) Letterman with her comments labeling him a dirty old man, and she nailed John Kerry ("Why the long face, John?") late last week. Obama and his minions (mainly Axelrod, Soros, Emanuel, Begala, and Carville) remain very worried about her.

The 2012 election is of course a long time away; however, the election will be "won" -- the foundations for winning be set -- in 2009 and 2010.

I don't know how many of you are doing this, but please sign up for google alerts on Sarah Palin. It will give you an insight into what is being said of her. One thing I am noticing is that she is now starting to get almost as much positive coverage on the blogs defending her as she was once being slammed.

We need to continue this effort.If you have a blog, one way to insure what you post makes its way into google alerts, page rank, and other search engines is to register your blog with technorati (which is a crock, I know). Also do the same with site meter, and make sure you are doing everything to insure google page rank on the blog.

It's a pain, but it will make a huge difference. It's also a game, but if you begin playing it correctly it is only going to benefit Sarah Palin.

I've noticed a change as the misc. bloggers for Palin are growing more sophisticated online and with their blogs. We are starting to turn the tide, but need to do more.The more SP blogs play the little page rank and site meter games, the more their presence is felt on line. It is nice to have the huge blogging effort - but only a handful of the blogs are being noticed, primarily because of lack of sophistication.

Sarah Palin and Michael Jackson? One of them has been a positive role model for Americans -- Sarah -- and the other -- Michael -- was something much less. Sarah's motto has been, "Serve the people." Michael's motto apparently was: "Serve yourself."

On the terrific Black Conservatives Group on Yahoo, David S. wrote the following: "My challenge is explaining to my almost 15-year-old kids about the "other" Michael Jackson because the only one they know is the circus freak show he became over the last 10-15 years. I am not sure they grasp just what a huge deal he was as part of the J5 and then in his Off The Wall/Thriller/Bad days...."

Here's what I wrote about Jackson:

DS, you defined the "two Michael Jacksons" very well. I find the national donning of sackcloth and ashes over Michael's death to be almost as creepy as he was in the last 15 years of his life. Celebrities -- including Michael and Elvis Presley -- fall into a pattern of life, complete with drug addiction, that is unsustainable. Yes, Michael was a very talented singer and dancer, but there many other people, much less well known, who are contributing a great deal more to humanity.

Let's be real: Michael didn't find a cure for cancer. He didn't write something equivalent to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. He didn't paint the "Mona Lisa." To pretend that his accomplishments in "pop culture" were a sign of greatness is ridiculous. Ten to fifteen years from now he will have become "Michael Who?"

Michael was spending tens of millions a year. He was reportedly $500 million in debt. What if even a portion of that money had been used for causes other than self-indulgence? For example, what if he'd contributed, say, $100 million (pocket change to him) to reward exceptional students in the Black community?

Exaggerating Michael's accomplishments is itself part of the "culture of corruption" that afflicts our society. Rest in peace, Michael, the peace you never achieved in life.

Glenn Beck Lacks Common Sense

Down below you'll find (in italics) the now famous letter from the 53-year-old woman in California who basically says to the Democrat and Republican parties "a pox on both your houses." Glenn Beck, who's trying hard to position himself as "the common sense guy," read the entire piece on his show.

Beck is one of those "average Americans" who makes perhaps $7-$10 million a year, but is "one of us." Yeah, sure, right. He is a guy who excels at shaking the money tree.I could go on and on about both Glenn and the "woman from California," but they are profoundly wrong about there being no difference between the two parties.

Judge for yourself: the dozen major complaints about government the woman has about government are the dozen major complaints most Republicans, including those in Congress, have about the (Obama/Reid/Pelosi) government. If her complaints -- and Glenn's - are about the Democrat leftists in Washington, then they should say so.

Pretending that everybody is equally responsible de-energizes people and convinces them that ANY actions are futile. Claiming both parties are "equally bad" and that all politicians are dishonest is itself a form of dishonesty. People like Sarah Palin, Haley Barbour, and Tom Coburn essentially agree with the woman on issues, but I doubt a single Democrat in Congress buys into her views on what government is doing badly.Yes, I realize a number of people like Glenn Beck. Often, I agree with him also.

But I truly wonder what the man is up to. Is he primarily (or exclusively?) an entertainer? For a man who claims to value common sense, his failure to distinguish between the two parties displays an appalling lack of brainpower. I have news for Glenn and his California woman: whining endlessly about "THEM" accomplishes nothing. And going on a "comedy tour" convinces Beck's critics that he's nothing more than a jokester and self-promoter.

If Beck believes the Republicans are right MOST OF THE TIME, then he should say so. If he doesn't believe that, he should pay closer attention. At this stage of my life, I'm not seeking publicity, but I'd be very willing to discuss these issues with Beck, but somehow, I don't think he'd take me up on that. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now. You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me?Well, these are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation:

One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This isn't to be confused with legal immigration.

Two, the TARP bill, I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.

Three: Czars, I want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.

Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say.

Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down!

Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don't you start there.

Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes. Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate.

Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want me to hate my employers? Why -- what do you have against shareholders making a profit?

Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.

Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. outsIf there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band-Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.

Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try -- please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.

Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now.Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let's just slow down and get some input from some nonpoliticians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law.

I am not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant or a violent person. I am a parent and a grandparent. I work. I'm busy. I'm busy. I am busy, and I am tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave.I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all of the recent spending.From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington. Our president often knows all the right buzzword is unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons.We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work , pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you. You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn't ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us when he will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don't care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now. Sarah Palin has joined the "Twitter Movement" in support of the Iranians fighting for what Gov. Palin believes in: "freedom, tolerance, and opportunity."

On Suinday, Palin tweeted the following: "Women worldwide watching Iran protests led by women demanding fair election & equality; their voices loud, strong; they will usher in change."

Barack Obama, as always playing the game of being "cool" and "calculating" has forgotten what Thomas Jefferson said in the Declaration of Indpendence, that all mankind is "endowed by the Creator [whatever name we call Him] with certain inalienable rights . . . [including] life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Those words apply to ALL human beings, including Iranians. It's time for Obama to start reminding Ahmadinejad and the "Supreme Ayatollah" of the need to respect fundamental human rights.

Massive electoral fraud to re-elect a president, massive public protests against the fraud, massive repression by the regime of the protestors - including beatings and killings.

That's what's happening in Iran in June 2009. It could also be what will happen in America in November 2012.

One of the dots connecting the two is a 74 year-old guy named Gerald Walpin. That's Walpin as in WalpinGate, the emerging scandal over Zero's illegally firing him as Inspector General for the Corporation for National and Community Service and its AmeriCorps program.

Zero's media fellatrices such as the New York Times or MSNBC have either ignored or dismissed the story. His media critics such as Glenn Beck or the Washington Times have narrowly focused the scandal on Zero's firing Walpin because he had exposed the fraud of Zero's friend, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.

Johnson is a red herring. Zero, as a master of misdirection, is hoping folks will think he's just trying to protect a friend. The stakes are astronomically higher than that. Kevin Johnson was a famous NBA basketball player in 1990s who went on to found a nonprofit organization, St. Hope Academy, which received close to $850,000 in federal grants from AmeriCorps from 2004 to 2007. In June 2008, he was elected Sacramento's mayor.

By September, Walpin's IG office had uncovered so much misuse of AmeriCorps' money by Johnson that he agreed to repay half of it. AmeriCorps was founded during the Clinton presidency. On April 22, President Zero signed a National Service bill tripling the program's budget to $5.7 billion, which will greatly increase payments to AmeriCorps "volunteers" and expand their numbers to 250,000.

On May 29, "America's first black Attorney General" Eric Holder dismissed a default judgment against Black Panthers caught on videotape intimidating voters with nightsticks during the November 4, 2008 presidential election.

Yesterday (6/17), Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN) announced that she will refuse to answer any questions for the 2010 national census other than the number of people in her household for fear that the information will be "abused" by ACORN census-takers.

Consider that the Saul Alinsky black racist-fascist community organizers of ACORN, the Black Panther thugs, and the quarter-million AmeriCorps "volunteers" are going to merge into one giant voter intimidation organization controlled by Michelle Obama via her chief of staff, Jackie Norris.

Think back now to last summer, when Candidate Zero talked of creating a "civilian national security force" that would be "just as strong and well-funded" as our military forces.

Yes, he wants his own basiji. The basiji are the hired "voluntary militia" plain-clothes government thugs you see beating people to death with truncheons in Iran. Their clones are coming to America.

American Basiji will be billion-dollar funded, will massively distort the 2010 census figures in Zero's favor, and by 2012 will be armed. Backed up by Zero's media whores, voter fraud orders of magnitude greater than any in U.S. history will be committed in broad daylight. Then the Second American Revolution begins - because the one great difference between Iran 2009 and America 2012 is 200 million guns in private hands, hands that know how to use them as opposed to ACORN amateurs.

Which is why between now and then you will see growing hysterical demonization of gun-owning "right-wing extremists." Gun confiscation is a necessary condition for Zero's 2012 electoral fraud to succeed.We no longer live in normal times.

We are soon going to be living in revolutionary times, as the people of Iran are now. If Iran is not to be the template for America then the struggle against Zero's Basiji has to begin in 2010, not 2012. And well before the November mid-term elections, but in March when the Census is initiated.

Refuse to answer any questions, such as regarding your age or race - or alternatively, state your race as "human" - other than the number of people in your household.

Then in November, be prepared for Basiji Trial Runs in your voting district.And in the meantime, work with outfits like ResistNet or FreedomWorks, and be sure and participate in a July 4th Tea Party. According to TeaPartyDay, TEA - Taxed Enough Already - parties are registered to take place in 1,230 cities. Organize and prepare.

On November 6, 2012, a Republican - my bet is that she will be Sarah Palin - will be elected president amidst massive violence and voter intimidation, defeating Zero (unless we can impeach him or otherwise cause him to resign first).

Within hours after the polls close, Zero will nonetheless be declared the winner via massive voter fraud. Then it's tea party time for real. Lock and load. If we're prepared, Zero's Basiji won't stand a chance.

Designed for a typical American family of four, this is the new "ObamaMobile" created by Government Motors, formerly known as GM.

All groups and individuals that support Sarah for President in 2012 need to emphasize simple, practical steps that will build her formidable grassroots effort. By practical and simple, I mean reaching out to "Aunt Edna" and "Cousin Bob" to get them to become part of Sarah's team. If every strong backer of Sarah can bring in two or three more people -- something that shouldn't be too difficult -- we establish a framework for winning.

Fan clubs are great, but the fans tend not to reach outside the core group. They talk a lot to themselves and each other, which can be something like a car spinning its wheels. People -- especially young people -- have to find out that it's trendy -- cool -- to support Sarah Palin. We also need to spread doubts about Obama's commitment to American values and about his intelligence, which is highly suspect.

Remember, Obama is the guy who called his own Secretary of Defense (Bob Gates) "Bill Gates," who is the guy at Microsoft. Obama is the "constitutional lawyer," who has never written an article or even a footnote on constitutional law. Even conservatives like Charles Krauthammer call him "brilliant," but where's the evidence of that brilliance?

Obama is the guy who's given an Inaugural Address and a spech at the D-Day ceremony. Can anyone in America (other than Michelle) remember even a single word or phrase from those "brilliant" speeches? I can still go around quoting JFK nearly 50 years after his Inauguration. Without the TelePrompter, Obama would have to take a vow of silence.

I got a letter from a friend in the "Murtha Must Go" Movement (of which I'm also a member, although I believe it's one of the singularly least successful efforts in history) about why he thinks it's wrong for to urge the firing of David Letterman, which I continue to do. His comments you can find by scrolling down to the italicized section. My response to him is in the red.

Leo, with all due respect, I think you misunderstand the First Amendment. Government cannot suppress speech, it's true, but no one is asking the government to do that. No one has a constitutional right to be on TV, or even to have a job, and no one has a "right" to have people sponsor his comments. I don't have such "rights," and neither do you or David Letterman.

When you're opposing John Murtha, it's a good idea to ask why the robotic people in the 12th district keep electing him, even after he describes them as "racists" and "rednecks." A big part of the problem is the culture, which is determined by people like Letterman. If the culture is in the toilet, then we will continue to get people like Murtha . . . and "moonbats" will end up determining who runs the country, as happened in the last election.

Let me be crystal clear: I want to put people like David Letterman, Bill Maher, and Katie Couric out of business. I believe they and the people they influence do great damage to our country. Yes, they have a lifestyle, but they don't have even an elementary sense of right-and-wrong. They are dangerous.

Again, with all due respect, I think you're wrong -- profoundly so -- on this matter. I ask you to exercise your first amendment rights and complain to the FCC and CBS on this matter.

No one will "give" our country back to us. If we're to regain it, we must do so by the force of our words and actions. Currently, David Letterman has lost two of his sponsors, Hellman's and Embassy Suites. That's a start.

President Barack Obama is, by far, the most popular politician in America. And there is little doubt who is No. 2.

The city of Auburn in upstate New York, population 28,574, held its first annual Founder's Day celebration June 6. The most famous of the city's fathers is William Seward, who as secretary of state purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867.

To commemorate the event, the city council invited the current governor of Alaska. The parade featuring Sarah Palin drew more than 20,000 people, according to press reports.

The next day Ms. Palin traveled to Long Island to speak at a fund-raiser for a charity which aids the developmentally disabled. Before that, she and her daughter, Willow, attended a New York Yankees game at the invitation of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The day after that, Ms. Palin took part in a fund-raiser in Washington, D.C., for House and Senate Republicans at which former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was the keynote speaker."An attempt to have the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate speak at the dinner ... fell through when organizers feared she might upstage Gingrich," UPI reported.

It was a rare trip outside of Alaska for Ms. Palin, who since the election has been tending to her day job, and it produced plenty of snotty commentary.

Much of it came from "GOP insiders" in Washington who speak anonymously to journalists.

"Everyone seems to have a Sarah Palin story of ignored calls, mishandled invitations or unanswered e-mail," wrote columnist Kathleen Parker, who was severely critical of Ms. Palin last fall.

The subtext of Ms. Parker's column is that her anonymous confidantes are upset with Ms. Palin because she has not hired them to work on a presidential campaign she has not begun.

This presupposes both that Ms. Palin wants to run for president in 2012, and that if she does, it would be wise for her to start now.Both are dubious assumptions. Ms. Palin may wish to do the best job she can as governor, and to decide whether or not to seek re-election next year before deciding if she wants to run for president in 2012, 2016 or ever.

If Sarah Palin decides she's had her fill of public life, it could be because of the attention her visit drew from the likes of "comedian" David Letterman.

In his monologue Monday, Mr. Letterman "joked" about Ms. Palin's "slutty flight-attendant look," and made two awful jokes about her daughter, one implying she'd had sex with Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez, the other that she'd been a prostitute for former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

"Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/New York entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands -- that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone's daughter, contribute to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others," Ms. Palin responded when asked for comment.

That many liberals found Mr. Letterman's remarks humorous speaks not only to their depravity, but to their fear. The 20,000 who turned out to see Ms. Palin in Auburn testify to the fact that she strikes a responsive chord with ordinary people no other Republican does.

Liberals and some Beltway conservatives assert Ms. Palin is stupid. She frequently is misquoted -- most recently by Dan Balz in The Washington Post Wednesday -- to make her appear so.

But I'd say she got the better of it in her exchange with David Letterman. And her brief walk across the stage at the GOP dinner Monday drew more attention than Mr. Gingrich's stem-winding speech.

For someone who, according to the Washington cognoscenti, doesn't know what she's doing, she's doing pretty well.I don't think Sarah Palin has decided whether she'd like to live in the White House. But if she does, ignoring the conventional wisdom in Washington may be the best way to get there.

David Letterman: Depraved, Degrading, Disgusting

If David Letterman dies a long, painful death and proceeds straight to Hell, it would be fine with me. Our goal for now is simple: TO PUT PEOPLE LIKE DAVID LETTERMAN OUT OF BUSINESS

I imagine you've heard about David Letterman's offensive and degrading comments about Sarah Palin and her 14-year-old daughter Willow. Among other things, Letterman called Gov. Palin a "slutty flight attendant." About Willow, he suggested she might be raped and "knocked up" on the Yankee Stadium Field by Alex Rodriguez.

Sean Hannity asked, "Where is the outrage from liberal women's groups?" Sean hasn't grasped yet that "liberal women's groups" have nothing to do with 90% of the women in America -- or the world.

I want to urge you to communicate your disgust with Letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Our goal must be to put people like Letterman out of business. In their celebration of depravity and degradation, they are doing great damage to our culture and our country.

Obama Equals Anger, Palin Joy

Thanks to Col. O. P. Ditch of "Vets for Palin," who sent me this picture of Sarah Palin at the big Republican bash last night in DC.

A friend in Illinois wrote me yesterday about the extreme anger he feels at the way Obama and his wrecking crew are demolishing all that's truly good about America. I replied with the following:

Dear Rich, you are not alone in your anger about the way Obama is chewing up and spitting out everything that is good about America. He lacks respect for life, and I'm not just talking about the unborn.

The Good News is that God wins out in the end, but sometimes it's a long journey to the end. Gov. Palin says that her little boy Trig is "perfect." She doesn't mean perfect in the world's sense, but perfect in that he's where God wants him to be and, more than that, he's WHAT God wants him to be.

When I went to the huge Sarah Palin rally in Oct. about 7 miles from where I live, I was one of the "greeters." I probably shook hands with 1,000 people, and there were so many mothers and children there that it just struck me how wonderful an experience this was for them. Sarah brought two of her own children along with her, Willow and Piper, two girls who were getting to see "the rest of America" for the first time. A great experience for me also.

Before the speech, the football coach at Beaver High got up and introduced Sarah and endorsed her. I thought it could be anymore "Western PA" if they tried. The crowd filled up the football stadium (capacity 6,500) and even took up every available space on the field.

Barack Obama: Ineligible for Presidency

Barack Hussein Obama, sometimes called "The first Kenyan citizen ever elected President of the US, has sent out the following birth certificate for our examination. For some reason, it has not ended the controversy over his constitutional fitness to occupy the White House, soon to be painted in multiple colors in order to reflect America's commitment to diversity.

No one questions that Sarah Heath Palin, born in Sandpoint, Idaho, is a natural born citizen as defined by the Constitution, but many questions exist about Obama's citizenship. Picture below is of Gov. Palin speaking yesterday in Auburn, New York.

My friend Jill in Hawaii sent me the following comment about Barack Obama's refusal to present his authentic birth certificate: "O has spent nearly $1 million in attorneys' fees to keep the document sealed & out of reach (along with his Occidental & Columbia records that would clearly show he was a foreign student). I could go on forever about this! But bottom line is that the issue is not just the birth certificate, but the fact that he does not qualify as a natural-born citizen (and thus is not qualified to be POTUS). Why is Obama ready to spend millions of dollars to prevent anyone from seeing his authentic birth certificate, the so-called "long form?" What's on the birth certificate (could it be that he was not born in the US?) that worries him and his handlers so much? Is he what the Constitution calls "a natural-born citizen," or is he not?

And what's the deal with his Occidental College and Columbia University records? Did he get mediocre grades (probably!), or was he listed as a citizen of Kenya . . . or Indonesia? Clearly, he doesn't want us to know the answers to those questions.He claims to have been born in a Honolulu, Hawaii, hospital, but there are no records of that happening.

The official birth certificate -- as contrasted from the bogus (short-form) document his campaign supplied -- would contain the name of the attending physician and the hospital. Of course, if he was born out-of-state (and out of the country), he would have to relinquish the presidency.

What would it take for him to realize the official birth certificate? It would take a five-minute phone call to the Governor of Hawaii. He must have a good reason for not making that phone call. Does he have a constitutional right to be sitting in the White House? More and more Americans are thinking the answer to that question may be no.

Folks, we may be heading for a major constitutional crisis.

Obama NOT a Talented Speaker

In the D-Day speeches today, Sarkozy, Brown, and (Canada's) Harper delivered very good ones, especially Sarkozy. In their remarks, they stressed the importance of personal freedom. Stephen Harper said, "We must teach liberty. We must promote democracy."

Of course, those are the very elements so clearly lacking in Obama's remarks, which consist mainly of a jumble of abstractions. Like Chinese food, his remarks are pleasing for a moment, but inevitably leave one hungry -- wishing somehow that there was more to it.

In his Cairo speech yesterday, Obama spoke three times about the right of Muslim women to wear the "hijab," the head scarf. Of course, he never mentioned the right of Muslim women NOT to wear the head scarf. His Secretary of State, long an advocate of female rights, apparently has been told never to mention the subject (at least outside the US).

Obama has no understanding (or at least claims to have no understanding) of the link between Islam, the Qu'ran, and violent Jihad. For God's sake, people, late in the 19th century (!!!!) the forces of the Ottoman Empire were besieging the walls of Vienna, Austria, trying to forcibly convert Europe to the "joys" of Islam. From the 7th century A.D. onward Islam tired to intimidate, kill, and forcibly convert people.

Within the past few years, a Muslim man tried to convert to Christianity in Afghanistan. The "Islamic courts" there sentenced him to death, which is of course the standard practice (in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere) for dealing with someone who converts from Islam. Finally, the U.S. got Italy (!!!!) to accept the individual as a refugee. And that's our "ally," Afghanistan.

Does Obama know these things? Yeah, but ultimately he doesn't care. Why should he? After all, he "won the election." Obama gave one slight nod today to the "rights of women." No one, not a single individual in the audience (which apparently was almost all male) applauded. These people are barbarians, and they are extremely dangerous. Yeah, Obama wanted to "build a bridge" . . . but it will turn out to be a Bridge to Nowhere.

The key difference between Gov. Sarah Palin and Obama is that she loves her country, while Obama apparently doesn't. Palin's son, Track, is in Iraq fighting to bring freedom to a country with a history of mass murder carried out by adherents to Islam. From all evidence, Palin regards freedom as essential to a nation. Obama regards it as no big deal. Increasingly, the man is a menace to the very country he claims to represent.

Fresh from declaring (absurdly) the US "a Muslim country," Barack Hussein Obama spoke at length today in Cairo, Egypt. With that country having one of the most brutal dictatorships -- based on Islam -- in the world, he neglected to emphasize the need for freedom, human rights, and a movement toward democracy. Why should he emphasize such things when he doesn't believe in them for his own country, assuming he even regards the US as his country?

At one point, engaging in his increasingly tiresome Bush-bashing, Obama talked about how 9/11 has caused the US to "abandon some of its ideals." What he's condemning the US for is defending itself against some of the same Muslim fanatics who made up a significant part of his audience.

Frankly, our "ideals" do not include wearing a sign that says "Attention Terrorists, Please Kill Us."Obama's brand of diplomacy is one where the US lies whimpering in a corner. Apparently, we are supposed to express our regrets for defending ourselves against the Islamo-fascists whom Obama is afraid to identify, let alone condemn.

Every time the man cranks up his TelePrompter, our country faces greater dangers. He will not defend the US because he believes there is nothing worth defending. Obama's illusion is that if he apologizes constantly to Muslims that will somehow cause people who hate us will somehow like us.

He calls it "building bridges," but really its his version of a Bridge to Nowhere. Frankly, we shouldn't want authoritarian countries that scoff at basic human rights and who celebrate a religion based on intolerance to LIKE us. If they did, it would prove we were doing something terribly wrong.

Yes, only a minority of people in a country like Egypt (or Saudi Arabia) believe in freedom, democracy, and human rights. However, that's precisely the minority we should be reaching out to . .. and helping nurture. We should be doing everything in our power to defeat and marginalize the hundreds of millions of Muslims who are little more than barbarians.

Obama Muslim President, Muslim Nation?

On Thursday, I'll be writing about Hussein's speech in Cairo, which I expect to one of the most incoherent addresses ever made by an American president. The main difference between Sarah Palin and B. Hussein Obama? She loves the country she grew up in, and he doesn't. Hope you'll return tomorrow.

Barack Hussein Obama may be on the verge of declaring himself America's "first Muslim president." Obama Says U.S. Could Be Seen as a Muslim Country, Too

"In an interview with Laura Haim on Canal Plus, a French television station, Mr. Obama noted that the United States also could be considered as 'one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.' He sought to downplay the expectations of the speech, but he said he hoped the address would raise awareness about Muslims."

As usual, Barack H. Obama is wrong.

The more we become aware of Muslims, the scarier -- and more barbaric -- they become.In terms of the number of Muslims, the USA ranks 38th on the list -- Indonesia is the largest (and a democracy) and Pakistan (marginally democratic) is the 2d largest.

Apparently, we are not a Christian nation (Obama's words) but we are now a Muslim nation? This is another sign of nitwittery on Obama's part. The man is always described as very bright, but where is the evidence for that???!!!

He says one idiotic thing after another (e.g., the U.S. has "57 states," his uncle "liberated Auschwitz," 10,000 people died in tornadoes in which only 12 were killed, FDR spoke on TV, etc.), but he is held to no standards of accuracy or intellectual coherence. Frankly, possessing a baritone voice is not synonymous with intelligence.

We can be sure of one thing in his Egypt speech. He will not emphasize -- perhaps not even mention -- that Islamo-fascists around the world have been responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths, including the murders on 9/11 in the US and 7/07 in Great Britain.

He cannot speak honestly -- truthfully -- to Muslims because to do so would "offend" them. Yes, he will deliver his speech in Egypt, but it might as well be on Fantasy Island.

Obama's Egyptian Coming Out Party

There's a rumor I'm trying to track down that this week in Egypt Barack Obama will finally admit he's not only a Muslim, but also a Kenyan citizen. At the same time, his wife ("America is a downright mean country") Michelle will announce that she's shown her famous "guns" for the last time. Henceforth, she will wear a burkha. Barack will don appropriate Kenyan garb.

In his speech in Egypt, Obama will discuss with his co-religionists how he will work with them to divvy up what was formerly known as the Western world.

I'll write a great deal this week about Obama's trip to Egypt. He would expect no less.

Tiller Killing: Really "Senseless Violence?"

One pro-life commentator called the execution of Dr. George Tiller "a senseless act of violence."
Like abortion, Tiller's murder 'senseless act of violence' (But also see Created's comment about this column.)

Violence it certainly was, but is "senseless" really the right term? Some the "standard responses" (see Sarah Palin's in the column below) strike me as extremely inadequate.

Pro-life activist Randall Terry said of "the good doctor" that "he reaped what he sowed." Terry is not going to pretend that he's sad about Tiller's passing.

I am NOT IN ANY WAY a violent person. I can't say the same about George Tiller, who was responsible for approximately 60,000 abortions, many of them of the "late-term" variety. In reality, "late-term-abortion" is a euphemism for the eradication of viable human beings. Is such a thing "against the law?" If it's not, then "the law" is little more than a protective barrier for evildoers.

On my blog, I've been talking about disrespect for life throughout history . . . resulting in the deaths of hundreds of millions of people (Rwanda, Darfur, the Soviet Union, Fascist Germany, Cambodia, Mao's China, and on and on).

"What is man that Thou art mindful of him?" The problem is that for so many dictators and the like man (i.e., humanity) isn't worth very much. I haven't mentioned the unborn yet, who appear to be victims of the general disregard for life.

Was Dr. Tiller anything but a criminal, an enemy of humanity? If so, reasoning with him or carrying a protest sign, does not seem to be quite enough. Those actions seem more like gestures designed to make the protesters feel good rather than to bring to an end what they believe are murderous actions.

Scott Roder, who allegedly shot George Tiller, apparently believed he was taking one life in order to save many. Was that in fact what Roeder was doing? If so, it casts his actions in a new light.

Palin on George Tiller's Death

Gov. Sarah Palin today issued the following statement on the death of Dr. George Tiller, a doctor reportedly involved in 60,000 abortions over his career:

"I feel sorrow for the Tiller family. I respect the sanctity of life, and the tragedy that took place today in Kansas clearly violates respect for life. This murder also damages the positive message of life, for the unborn, and for those living.

Ask yourself, 'What will those who have not yet decided personally where they stand on this issue take away from today's event in Kansas?' Regardless of my strong objection to Dr. Tiller's abortion practices, violence is never an answer in advancing the pro-life message."

In the next day or two, I'll have more to say about the death of George Tiller, known in the pro-life community as "Tiller the Baby Killer." Much as I admire Gov. Palin, her statement is somehow less than fully satisfying. There is no evidence that Tiller shared Sarah Palin's respect for life.

We have seen societies, ancient and modern, where there has been less than minimal respect for life. They include places like fascist German, Stalin's Soviet Union, Khmer Rouge Cambodia, Rwanda, and Darfur. They end up as countries that are reminiscent of Thomas Hobbes's "state of nature, " where life becomes "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish . . . and short."

"I think in some efforts to be everything to everyone, many Christians, including those with real faith and good intentions, have forgotten to show courage and 'stand up for what is right, even when they're standing alone.'"

"On Dr. Tiller's passing, I can't exactly say I'm shedding any tears. I believe late-term abortions are murder, destruction of the innocent; I believe the shooting of Tiller was a killing, but not a murder. There was nothing "innocent" about the man. Why exactly would his life be worth more than the ones he destroyed?"

A friend from Hawaii comments on Tiller's death . . .

- I've been thinking about this quite a bit since it happened. I also abhor murder (unless one is defending oneself), yet I can't help but think of the countless babies who will be saved because of this one death. It's similar to the old argument about Hitler: if he had been killed before he gained so much power, think of all the innocent lives that would have been saved. On another note, since I've become rather cynical since O[bama] was elected I always think of the "ripple effects" from such events. In this regard, I'm wondering how this will affect the Sotomayor hearings & confirmation process. Will the committee shy away from asking about her position on abortion? We'll see.....

Yet another friend weighs in on Tiller and his Killer . . .

I uphold the Rule of Law when I support trying to get this sort of doctor LEGALLY, not by killing him myself, or joining an organized modern-day “posse” to do so. (Not that you’re advocating either measure….)

Civilizations can’t exist if people are allowed to kill others when they disagree with the state----unless the State Itself is evil (the Third Reich), in which case other measures are understandable (cum Dietrich Bonhoeffer).

I agree that late-term abortion is warranted medically only VERY, VERY rarely, and otherwise it’s like most abortions: murder. BUT, we don’t VALUE LIFE if we take life ourselves illegally and unethically----which is what this killing was, imo.

Today, most elected leaders are far removed from their constituents, leading to apathy toward the whole political process. But one notable and distinct exception is changing that trend: Sarah Palin — Governor of Alaska. On May 26, I received a hand-written thank you note for my support of her.Though I live 4,400 miles away, I follow Gov. Palin’s accomplishments closely and document them. I know, based on research and on information from several contacts, that she works 18 to 20 hours a day seven days a week. She also has familial obligations, volunteer work; has to eat, exercise (yes, she makes the time and she runs marathons), among other things.

My thank you note was written by the governor’s hand and postmarked the day that same hand signed six appropriations bills into law, and executed the line item veto. Gov. Palin requested preliminary damage assessments from FEMA teams that same day as well.That Gov. Palin made the time and had it in her heart to thank me — an ordinary person — from thousands of miles apart — on such a busy day — is an honor I’ll never forget. My whoop of joy was probably heard around the world when I opened the mailbox and saw that note.Twice in as many weeks Gov. Palin brought the political process to the classroom, where she signed bills in the presence of students at four schools. This is a rarity; a treasure. Leaders such as her — born from among us — appear perhaps once in 150 years.

Rush Limbaugh No Hate-Monger

I realize that some extremists on the political Left delight in calling Rush Limbaugh all sorts of names, including "hate-monger." Frankly, Limbaugh has emphasized many times that, in addition to being a (first-rate) political analyst, he's also an entertainer. He realizes that, in order to be heard, it's usually necessary to speak in colorful language -- and, in his case, to hit liberals with a big (verbal) stick. Rush is a big admirer of Gov. Sarah Palin, and I hope she and he establish common cause to the greatest extent possible.

I saw on TV Rush Limbaugh's February presentation at CPAC and later read the speech (a long one). I described it as "A Love Letter to America," one emphasizing limited government, opportunity, tolerance, self-reliance, and, especially, liberty. I basically stopped listening to Rush with any regularity in 1994 -- too much bluster, but the man does have a good heart.

I realize that some on the Left called the CPAC presentation "hate speech," which it was not. People on the Left who hate Limbaugh do so because he's so effective -- and because he absolutely refuses to apologize for being an American.

Some people, including Rush, are extremely angry at Sonia Sotomayor, who has made remarks proclaiming herself superior not only to white people, but apparently to Black people. Note that she didn't give any props to "wise Black women" or "wise Asian women" or "wise Native Americans." Why not?

What if a Rush Limbaugh had pronounced white men superior to Black men . . . or Black women? I don't think Obama would have nominated him to the Supreme Court. I doubt if Rush has ever in his career made remarks as offensive as some of Sotomayor's. She's a racial polarizer, and he is not.

The whole "Latina" identity thing is B-S. If she truly believed the Latin culture was superior to our American culture, she would have headed back to Puerto Rico long ago. It's just pretense, a pose by someone who wants to assert her own "specialness."

Winning Against Obama in Congress

One last thought about winning in politics. On the show "House" (my wife is obsessed with it), Dr. House was talking to :"Amber," whom he had described as a "cutthroat b-word" about why she was so driven to prevail. She said, "You know, awhile back I watched a big football game on TV . . . and at the end, you know what, the team that won was the HAPPY one."

We won a big victory in the Senate -- 90 to 6 -- on the issue of providing Obama funds to close GITMO. We won mainly because we framed the issue in a way that prevented even Dems from voting for it. We won because we framed it, "Do you want homicidal maniacs -- terrorists -- in YOUR neighborhood?" Even Harry Reid voted against it. The next day or so Obama went out with his TelePrompter and tried to "make the case," but it was a case nobody wanted to hear -- or will ever want to hear.

If we can't do that kind of "framing-to-win" with Sonia Sotomayor, then we won't win. Heck, we're all used to that anyway, right? We can wear the health care debate as long as we put the issue in terms that will acquaint the American people with the "joys" of rationing and "take-a-number" health care.

One of Obama's key advisers on health care is Dr. Ezekiel Emmanuel -- he's Rahm's brother -- who advocates getting rid of the Hippocratic Oath. His "treatment" for the ill elderly seems to be to hold a pillow over their heads. Cost control, you know. Obama's comment -- I'm not making this up -- is for society to face up to the need for "democratic decisions" on when to deny care. Patients and their families -- and even their personal doctors -- appear not to be part of those democratic decisions for euthanasia.

I have been urging people to get a copy of Dr. David Gratzer's book called The Cure. In it, he describes his shocking experience as a Canadian med student, taking a short cut through a hospital emergency facility. Every hallway was full of people on stretchers, most of them elderly, who had been there for days. In the air was an almost suffocating stench of urine and sweat. Many of the patients were moaning, and others were going in and out of consciouness. (The description is on p. 1 of the book).

Gratzer says that was his first real experience of what the much-celebrated Canadian system actually meant. We need to take these realities and rub the leftists noses in them.. One of the people writing in these e-mail exchanges (Teri) has TWENTY-ONE separate/related illnesses, although she remains as feisty as when she was a teenager. In Canada, she would not be writing about Obama and Sotomayor, because her funeral would have occurred long ago.

Is America Losing Its Soul?

So many people back Gov. Sarah Palin because she represents the traditional values, human decency, and love of America that people like Obama and Sotomayor view with contempt bordering on loathing.

Political commentator Dick Morris said that Obama's goal was to turn the proud USA into . . . France. Why do so many people in our country, formerly known as "the land of the free and the brave," approve of Obama's action diminishing our country? Today's column will explore the bad things that are happening in this nation.

I sent the disturbing picture above of Obama and his political soulmate, Sotomayor, out to many people and one of them -- Cindy in New Mexico -- wrote back, "Ugh, so much for dinner!"

One recipient of my e-mail, Teresa in Illinois, sent me the following:

"Watching Obama speak truly creeps me out b/c there is always an audience of robots absorbing every word.The American people have lost their guts in some respects. There is a vast difference for those who are hungry for opportunity and those content with the status quo.

"With the exception of the great people I have marched with and all the great organizations we support, I also see a great disconnect with the two wars we fight. I can barely say "America is at war" without having some skepticism, because the majority of this country has turned their backs on our troops. The military is at war while America rushes home to watch their reality TV and update their Facebook pages.

America, a Nation of Voyeurs?

Teresa, you are right on target about the disconnect. It seems to me that people born and growing up in the shadow of World War II -- in the 40s and 50s mainly -- had a kind of awe about being Americans. Every family was touched by that War.

Your comment about the idiotic reality shows struck home. In general, we've become a nation of voyeurs, celebrating people our predecessors would have turn away from in revulsion. Sometimes when I'm looking for news on TV, I keep running into the disgusting Jon & Kate, or Nancy Grace ("all Caylee Anthony all the time") and "Showbiz Tonight" featuring the multitude of shallow and immoral people in Hollywood.

It has struck me recently that many of the cable channels and the traditional ones are busy trying to make "heroes" out of people who've committed murders and other crimes. They make household names -- "stars" -- out of individual like Drew Peterson and Scott Peterson. They would be doing the same for sadistic murderer Ted Bundy if he hadn't lived slightly before the reality show mentality.

Are so many Americans' lives so shallow -- so pointless -- that they need to spend so many hours learning every detail about people who are thoroughly contemptible?

Barack Hussein Obama wants such a Justice. Sonia Sotomayor obviously does . . . but does America really want to go down that road of identity politics? We shall see.

Judge Sonia Sotomayor, Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court, falsely claimed today (May 26) that she believes deeply in "the rule of law." As you learn more about this woman, you'll find that for her the "rule of law" is a term that means the rule of law-flouting liberal activist judges.Barack Obama clearly believes that Sotomayor possesses the quality he believes most important in a judge: empathy.

However, in her case, empathy apparently is synonymous with bias in terms of gender, race, and ethnicity. From her public statements and rulings, believes that people should receive unequal protection under the law.

Specifically, in the case of the New Haven, CT, firefighters, Sotomayor ruled that Caucasian firemen (and one Hispanic) somehow had an unfair advantage when it came to promotion. However, on any objective basis, they had no such advantage.

Many lawyers who have argued cases before Sotomayor believe she lacks a judicial temperament. In fact, some make the case that she's a bad-tempered individual.

Consider the comments made by lawyers in The Almanac of the Federal Judiciary, as outlined in one of Jeffrey Rosen's articles in the liberal New Republic:

Those are descriptions of a narcissist or an egomaniac, or both. Is that the kind of person we really want on the Supreme Court?

SCOTUS: Obama's Anti-Christian Nominee

There is a very high probability that this week Barack H. Obama will nominate US 7th District Court of Appeals Judge Diane P. Wood to replace David Souter on the Supreme Court. For those of you who admire Sarah Palin and her commitment to American values and our Constitution, you will find almost nothing to like about Diane Wood.

As I make clear in the previous column below Judge Wood is a left-wing extremist whose decisions show contempt for Americans who are: (1) pro-life; (2) advocates of traditional marriage; (3) orthodox Christians; (4) believers in the concept that judges should interpret the law rather than use the bench to make new laws; and (5) those who believe in the freedom of religion clause in the First Amendment. Yes, she has "empathy," but apparently it extends only to those who agree with her on social issues.

On defeating the nomination of Diane Wood consider the following: ”He who is skilled in attack flashes forth from the topmost heights of heaven, making it impossible for the enemy to guard against him. This being so, the places that he shall attack are precisely those the enemy cannot defend.” – Sun-tzu, The Art of War.

She regularly displays contempt for lawyers taking legal positions at variance with her social and political philosophy. In her judicial opinions, Wood has consistently taken positions at variance with the intent of the framers of the Constitution. In one opinion, she indicated she would like to remove the phrase "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance.

This exceedlingly strange woman has even suggested that having gays and Christians -- or even Republicans and Democrats -- in the same law school classrooms could create an atmosphere she described as "poisonous." I

n one of her law review essays, she argues that the Constitution is out of date and that judges' "evolving" (i.e., socially acceptable) opinions should take precedence over the Framers' views. But as an Oklahoma legislator (Charles Keye) recently said, "The Constitution either means what it says . . . or it means nothing at all."

Wood should not be nominated and, if as appears likely, she is, should not be confirmed. Wood is a symbol of everything that's wrong with the American judiciary. Obama Naming Anti-Christian Diane Wood

Bulletin: Information is leaking out of Washington, DC that next week Barack Obama will name Judge Diane Wood, age 58, of Chicago (and the 7th US Court of Appeals) as his choice to replace David Souter on the US Supreme Court. This is single-source information, but it's from a very reliable individual.

Obama's political guru and senior adviser, David Axelrod, reportedly has "cleared" the choice with George Soros' Moveon.org, a group that has favored another candidate (Hispanic Sonia Sotomayor). Also, Diane Wood is a major favorite of the National Organization of Women (NOW).
She is notable for favoring the view of the Constitution as a "living document" (or "evolving document") which for strict constructionists means she sees it as something open to liberal "interpretations" by activist judges. Apparently, she disagrees ith the Oklahoma legislator who recently observed, "The Constitution either means what it says, or it means nothing at all."

Wood apparently was chosen over other candidates (incuding Sotomayor, Kathleen Sullivan of Stanford, and Elena Kagan, former Dean at Obama's alma mater, Harvard) because of her "real world experience." Specifically, she is a divorced mother of three with a legal background not confined to the academic world. Apparently, no male candidates received any serious consideration.

Obama interviewed Judge Wood last week. Her political/judicial attitudes seem to dovetail with those of two SCOTUS judges Obama has said he admires, Justice Souter and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Obama proclaimed that a key quality for his appointee would be "empathy" (for the downtrodden). As you'll see from Ed Whelan's National Review Online articles (there are five),Judge Wood's empathy is clearly selective -- and don't apply, for example, to people with orthodos Christian beliefs:

Among the matters that Wood doesn’t address is how it is that the Court has the authority to override democratic enactments based on its own reading of language whose meaning is, in relevant respects, indeterminate.

2. Wood believes that it’s proper for the Supreme Court to revise the meaning of constitutional provisions to reflect contemporary international and foreign practices. Commenting on the Court’s decision in Roper v. Simmons, she states that “the Court appropriately chose to enrich its understanding of the issue by reviewing international practice, acknowledging implicitly that the American people are indeed part of the broader human community and at least presumptively share its core values.” (80 N.Y.U. L. Rev. at 1101.)

3. Wood evidently believes that the inclusion of “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance violates the Establishment Clause and that a Supreme Court ruling permitting that phrase would “announce that the United States is a nation that has adopted monotheism as its official state dogma.” But perhaps I’m misreading her opaque and seemingly incoherent text, so I set forth the full paragraph here:

Last [of three cases involving “displays of patriotism”] is Newdow, in which Mr. Newdow tried unsuccessfully to raise the question whether the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag violate the Establishment Clause of the Constitution. The Court ducked the issue. Ordinarily, that would be the end of the matter for now. And perhaps it will be here too, assuming that the Congress does not pass the legislation that has cleared the House that would strip the Supreme Court of jurisdiction to hear any case involving the Pledge. No matter what happens, however, it seems clear that no amount of pressure will cause the Court to announce that the United States is a nation that has adopted monotheism as its official state dogma.(8 Green Bag 2d at 181.)

4. Wood strongly signals, in her discussion of Loving v. Virginia, that she believes that there is a federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage: “The right not to have the State prescribe a set of acceptable spouses, in the absence of the kind of powerful reason it would have for incest laws or laws designed to protect children, is implicit in the concept of liberty.” (8 Green Bag 2d at 184.)

Steve adds: The Declaration of Independence is not the Constitution, but at the very least, it informs us about the thinking of the Founding Fathers. In the Declaration, Jefferson says that we are "endowed by the Creator [singular] with certain inalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Jefferson certainly didn't believe that by saying so he was "establishing" a specific religious denomination's views (note to Judge Wood: monotheism is NOT a religion) as what she calls "the official state dogma."

For those still reading, I'd like to say one more thing. I'm sure Barack Obama, like many other liberals, believes Diane Wood is possessed of "intellectual firepower." In fact, as Ed Whelan observes, most of her thinking is incoherent and inflamed by political bias.

She has no business being on the Supreme Court. She has no business being on the Court she currently serves. She's a simpleton.

Barack Obama: Audacity, Pomposity, Hyberbole

Early in last year's campaign, Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Tribe, a man ever-yearning for appointment to the Supreme Court, referred to Barack Obama as "brilliant." Prof. Tribe apparently has a very low threshold for assigning brilliance.

Today in his pompous TelePrompter-aided speech, Barack Obama referred to his Secretary of Defense as "William Gates." In fact, the man's name is Robert, not William. Can we have one more chorus of adoring Obamaphiliacs tell us how "brilliant" the man is?

Waterboarding is NOT torture, except by the prissy standards of the ACLU and America-haters like George Soros. During the campaign, Obama once famously referred to the fact that he had visited "57 states." Perhaps he was foreshadowing the naming of Kenya and several other nations in Africa and the Mideast to the Union?

He also talked about the "10,000 people" who had died in a series of Kansas tornadoes. In fact, the number of deaths was somewhat smaller: a total of 12 fatalities.

This is the same Barack Obama who assured us one of his uncles, a man Obama never met, apparently had the newly fashionable PTSD. Obama never cited any other family members or associates to verify such a medical diagnosis of a moody relative dead for generations.

Obama does not do well with his "uncle" designations -- remember when he was still defending Rev. Wright and referred to him as an "old uncle?" In another case, Obama invented an uncle who had "liberated Auschwitz," apparently single-handedly.

When it was pointed out to him that Auschwitz was liberated by the Red Army, Obama plucked another uncle out of the hat, and said that he had "liberated Treblinka." Alas, what evidence exists suggests that particular great-uncle, Charlie Payne, was in the Navy, not the Army. Unless he magically liberated Treblinka from the sea, Charlie Payne never reached the level of heroism ascribed to him by his grand-nephew.

What if, say, Sarah Palin had ever come with such a collection of whoppers and gaffes? One imagines the Huffington Post and the NY Times would have volunteered to boil her in oil. They certainly would have seen her, although not Obama, as a certifiable nitwit.

Or what if it had been Sarah Palin, rather than the president of the US, who had portrayed participants in the Special Olympics as fodder for late-night jokes? Or what if Sarah had spent her earlier years "paling around" with Bill Ayers or Bernadine Dohrn. Or what if she had spent 20 years in a church with a Caucasian version of Rev. Wright? Or what if the house she and Todd lived in had been financed by political fixer Tony Reszko? Or what if she had enthusiastically endorsed -- twice -- Gov. Rod Blagojevich?

Those of you who have read this far get the point. Sarah is not the one who makes idiotic comments and engages in constant hyperbole about her relatives' achievement. Barack Hussein Obama is the one who does so.

Yes, Obama, Axelrod, and their media minions have "done a number" on Sarah Palin. In fact, however, she and her family represent just about everything that's good in American life, including politics. Obama is a smooth talking ideologue in a $4,000 suit clinging to his TelePrompter. Sarah Palin? She's the stuff of which American legends are made.

Sarah Beware, Glenn Beck Ambushed!

Glenn Beck is one of the latest conservative television personality to demonstrate that, when it comes to the MSM, conservative television personalities never learn. Below is the information Beck sent out today about his "interview" on The View.

"Glenn knew this wasn't going to be pretty -- but his interview with the ladies on The View was even worse than anticipated, mostly because they wasted an entire segment on accusations that Glenn 'lied' about who said hello to who first on his Amtrak train ride with Barbara and Whoopi to the Correspondents dinner in Washington DC. The saddest part is that not only did they waste an entire segment on a completely insignificant, petty, humorless and incidental point – Glenn had already clarified the point the day before! Tune in to Fox News tonight at 5pm for Glenn's first response to the 'liar liar pants on fire' ambush interview by the ladies on The View. Watch the ambush HERE."

Gee, the dear ladies of The View treated Glenn Beck with hostility and unfairness. Gee, who woulda thunk it?

What exactly did Glenn expect? Did he believe that because he is a "nice guy," which he regularly tells us, Barbara, Whoopi, and the joyless Joy were going to become his new best friends? Why was Glenn so naive? Why did the "ambush" come as a surprise? And why oh why did he ever consent to go on a program famous for liberal hit-jobs?

Glenn is not a man of great talents, but he nevertheless has a huge ego. If the disastrous journey to Barbara Walters and friends accomplished anything, maybe it brought his ego at least slightly more into congruence with reality.

My notable blogger friend, Rodger Morrow, made the following comment after Sarah Palin's disastrous interviews with Katie Couric and Charles Gibson: "Every time we hold the hand of friendship out to liberal journalists . . . they bite it."

I believe Sarah Palin knows what might now be occurring to Glenn Beck: the leftist errand boys and errand girls on the networks are not our friends. They do not have our best interests at heart. They do not want us to succeed. The errands they carry out are done on behalf of Obama and other far-left politicos/celebrities.

If any of us, including Sarah Palin, get ambushed in the future, we will have no one to blame but ourselves. Let the liberals interview one another, while we stay far away from them. The only thing we accomplish by being on with them is to increase THEIR ratings.

Note: What about Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the one conservative on The View? She has to realize she's no more than a token. Joy, Whoopi, and Barbara don't respect Elisabeth. She needs a new job.]

When all of America’s top health insurers and providers met at the White House [last] week and pledged to save $2 trillion over the next decade in health costs, they were pledging to sabotage our medical care. The blunt truth, which everybody agreed to keep quiet, is that the only way to reduce these costs is to ration healthcare, thereby destroying our system.

Here’s why:

• Essential to any cost reduction is a cut in doctors’ fees. Congress is trying to cut Medicare fees by 21 percent. But cuts in fees and doctors’ incomes will just discourage people from entering the profession and those already in it from practicing.

The limited number of doctors and nurses in the United States is the key constraint on the availability of healthcare. Our national inventory of 800,000 doctors is growing at only about 1 percent a year (18,000 med school graduates annually minus retirements), while the nurse population is stagnant at 1.4 million. To stretch these limited resources so that they can treat 50 million more people is possible only through the most severe kind of rationing.

• As in Canada, the best way to cut medical costs is to refrain from using the best drugs to treat cancer and other illnesses, thereby economizing at the expense of patients’ lives. Forty-four percent of the drugs approved by the Canadian health authorities for use in their country are not allowed by the healthcare system due to their high cost.

As a result, death rates from cancer are 16 percent higher in Canada than in the United States. We will pay for the attempt to save $2 trillion with our lives. (And remember, one cannot opt out of the Canadian system and pay for the medications out of pocket.)

ObamaCare is Bad Medicine

ObamaCare inevitably will make the US health care system more like the Canadian one, and that's not a good development. The cure rate in our country is well ahead of that in Canada for just about every ailment known to mankind. Eventually, rationing will become the order of the day in American hospitals and physicians' offices. Sarah Palin will oppose such developments, and we need to stand with her.

Consider the following story from Dr. David Gratzer's book The Cure:

"In medical school, I learned the most important lesson not in a classroom but on the way to one. On a cold Canadian morning about a decade ago, late for a class, I cut through a hospital emergency room and came upon dozens of people on stretchers -- waiting, moaning, begging for treatment. Some elderly patients has waited for up to five days in corridors before being admitted to beds. They smelled of urine and sweat. In fact, Barack Obama and Kathleen Sibelius are beginning the same dismal journey -- and they, along with us, will experience the same disaster. That disaster will not occur overnight, but occur it will.

Obama: Healthcare or Deathcare?

Jean Avery, a McCain-Palin stalwart and a young mother in Seattle is a graduate of Princeton, and she put me onto Professor Peter Singer, who is a very dangerous man. Singer doesn't believe in God, but he somehow feels he is qualified to BE god.

He's famous for believing that animals have rights (relax, I'm an animal lover), but he's not convinced that (all) human beings have such rights. Obama's comments on the "democratic decisions" (made by government employees and not including patients, their own doctors, their families, and their priests, rabbis, or ministers!) about when to deny care to terminal patients, truly was chilling. It didn't get a lot of attention from the media. He was saying what many people on the agnostic Left are thinking.

It's not a paradox but rather a contradiction: In order to provide care, excessive in many cases, to all, government must deny it to the some, and the sick elderly are the first ones who will lose.
I'm not under any illusions that end-of-life issues are easy.

Personally, I'm in favor of hospices and DNRs (Do Not Resuscitate forms signed by patients or their next-of-kin), as long as it isn't some bureaucrat signing the DNR. The problem with Obama's "statistical" approach to health care is that it turns out the statistics don't really apply to unique individuals.

As for Prof. Singer, his reasoning about it's being okay to euthanize severely handicapped people is a lot like some of the "moderately evil" Nazis, who looked at handicapped individuals (and other groups) as merely a cost-benefit question. In doing so, they were "enablers" for the "pure evil" Nazis.

Obama-care is going to impose unsustainable costs on the health care system, including payoffs to SEIU members (many of whom are hospital workers) and "cooperative" providers. Also, more and more patients are going to start demanding the Mayo Clinic or Johns Hopkins rather than their local hospital. That will cause costs to skyrocket.

Soon after, the government rationing will begin. The good news will be that we'll all have a "health care" card; the bad news it will be worth less and less.
